I like the award to go to a state champion coach. I would go with Haddix because 4A was tough this year. 3A was no sweat for CAL so why wouldn't vote for Cantwell.

Hard to argue a coach of the year who won the biggest game of the year. 4A was packed this year and this group was not as highly touted as previous years. Impressive for sure.

  • I would say the best coaches do more with less. Several of these coaches, who are no doubt great coaches, are also the beneficiaries of Jimmies and Joes and years of program success.

  • Ganaway first year as HC at Owensboro - state championshiop... excellent job...somehow not on the list?

  • All great coaches but my three finalist would probably be: Damarcus Ganaway Sr. - Owensboro Matthew Jones - Kentucky Country Day Oakley Watkins - Lexington Christian Academy

Haddix and Cantwell are both so good a coach of the year award could be justified most years.

After the Three Peet, and not losing to any Kentucky team, any list that doesn't even include Jay Cobb on it is worthless to me.

Haddix is my guy!! How do you go with anyone else?

My 3 finalist would be:

Smith at South Warren

Haddix at Boyle County

Stonebraker at Danville

All three did amazing work (South Warren a run to the State finals in their first year in 6A and Boyle Co. winning 4A in what some thought would be a rebuilding year), but Stoney turning Danville around from 23 straight losses to 9-3 in his first year is strong!

But why was 3A no sweat for CAL?  3A proved to have some very worthy teams after all but CAL running clocked all of the 3A teams they played nonetheless.  Don’t forget, although it wasn’t a lot of players, heading into this year CAL did lose 3 seniors who went D1 & lost another 3 players to transfers who have multiple D1 offers & yet somehow found a way to go undefeated, running clocked 13 of their 15 opponents, including 2 state champs & were all around better than last year.  Say what you will, but if that’s not worthy of being coach of the year, I’m not sure what is.

Look at power ratings between CAL and rest of 3A. Wasn't close. 4A had more depth this year.

CAL can steamroll 3A for years to come. KHSAA needs a promotion and relegation process. 4A is where they belong.

3A, competition wise has to be the weakest of the 6 classes with the top being so separated from the rest. Did any 3A team not named CAL crack the state top 25?

Your take just might be a bit off.

Trinity and Coach Beatty had an outstanding junior football class for the 2019 season. Very, very talented. That team went 13-2 vs a very similar schedule to the 2025 Rocks. They lost to Male and Cathedral. They scored 599 points and allowed 138 points. They won state.

Trinity and Coach Cobb had an outstanding junior football class for the 2025 season. Very, very talented. That team went 13-2. They lost to Moeller and Cincy St X. They scored 628 points and allowed 147 points. They won state.

I doubt that Coach Cobb is an ”average coach”.

I see the award going to Smith. First year in 6A and gave Trinity more trouble than any other 6A school on the Rocks schedule.

Check the box.

Of all the finalists my choice probably would have been Coach Smith too but like has been mentioned, the group of finalists was incomplete.

The only awards we care about at Trinity come from Balfour...
