  • I would say the best coaches do more with less. Several of these coaches, who are no doubt great coaches, are also the beneficiaries of Jimmies and Joes and years of program success.

  • Ganaway first year as HC at Owensboro - state championshiop... excellent job...somehow not on the list?

  • All great coaches but my three finalist would probably be: Damarcus Ganaway Sr. - Owensboro Matthew Jones - Kentucky Country Day Oakley Watkins - Lexington Christian Academy

All good coaches gotta roll with either Cantwell, Haddix, or Smith here.

Some of the best coaches in the state went 5-5 with 1-9 talent. Just the nature of the beast.

Coach Honaker from Gallatin County needs to be on this list! Turning the program around!!

I agree with you to a point.  But I see several teams a year with a fair share of "Jimmies and Joes" not make it near as far as they should.

My 3 finalist would be:

Smith at South Warren

Haddix at Boyle County

Stonebraker at Danville

Big picture……Stonebraker at Danville is quite a turn-a-round.

Hope you guys will listen to our podcast Thursday night. We discussed/picked Coach of the Year... and do so by each class. Several of the names listed here made our list as well.

Ganaway first year as HC at Owensboro - state championshiop... excellent job...somehow not on the list?

I see the award going to Smith. First year in 6A and gave Trinity more trouble than any other 6A school on the Rocks schedule.

I like the award to go to a state champion coach. I would go with Haddix because 4A was tough this year. 3A was no sweat for CAL so why wouldn't vote for Cantwell.

Truly crazy he is not on that list.

Haddix did lose Mr. Football and a big senior class last year and had to rebuild.  Smith-Hisel and Yancy both where back ups and scout team players last year for Boyle and a unknown across the state.  Both are now a finalist for Mr. Football and Lineman of the year.  Driver was good last year but improved by leaps and bounds this season.  Lost his starting QB on a loss to Lexington Catholic and replaced him with a unknown sophomore.  All he did was lead the team to a win over Highlands and St. X.  By the time Murphy got well it was hard to replace him as the team was playing really well.   HUGE shout out to Baylor Murphy for being a team player and doing what ever it took by playing on kickoffs or as a WR.  SO happy to see him with a passing TD at State!

No one was expecting Boyle to come out of 4A this season.  Even was pre-season ranked #4 to start and dropped even more after the LC loss.  The improvement the team made was one of the best I've seen from any Boyle team in the past.  That's all on Coach Haddix.
