Does anyone think the 2025 Owensboro Catholic team is better than last year’s team?

Definitely not at the skill positions. Carothers is a different kind of QB than Atwell.  I will say their offensive line play is pretty solid and they have backs who play hard. Defensively is in the eye of the beholder.

Beechwood wins by a few possessions if I had to guess.

  • I was out tonight with hard core Beechwood parents who were at the game last night. They said that the best team won. Tough loss for the Tigers. Take state OC.  Best of luck to you!

  • I’m probably not a voice of reason on this, but I’m rolling with the ACES…I’m wrong 1% of the time though.  I did call Corbin over Highlands so there’s that.

  • LOL - Owensboro has always been Western KY (in our own eyes I guess!). It took me moving to Paducah to realize how FAR Western KY felt about it though.  I had a guy in Paducah tell me “we (Mcracken, C

OC will need to be able to play physical football to compete with Beechwood.  If they can, they have a chance.  This may be the premier matchup in the state this week regardless of class.

I wouldn't worry about this.  He has been doing it for 3 years now and its not a shot!!!  Does it every game!

I can second this. It's not a shot at all. He did this to us at Owensboro too. I kinda get a kick out of this every week.

Beechwood, 42-7

Hopefully Beechwood plays well considering they are just “a bunch of athletes”! We remember this!

I assume Pikeville/Raceland will have video meaning this game, Beechwood vs. Owensboro Catholic, looks like the only game not currently scheduled for live video Friday night.  Every other game appears to have live video.

Powers that be at Owensboro Catholic!!??

I remember this last year, I couldn't believe the Aces people would stoop so low as to compliment the speed and athleticism of Beechwood.

Somerset moved the ball well against OC, even with their limited passing game.  I don't see any way that the Aces can hold Beechwood below the 3 scores that Somerset got, and they most likely get 2-3 more.  That means Catholic will need at least 35 to have a shot to win.  Carothers has a great arm, and can hurt you with his legs as well, more by keeping plays alive until his receivers get open than by just taking off.  I did notice that on some of his short passes across the middle that Carothers kind of gets on top of the ball, and it comes out with the nose pointing down.  That led to 2 balls being batted down, and a few where his receivers had to slow or stop because the ball came to them low.   On the deep balls he put a little bit too much on most of them.  That led to the Aces only averaging about 6 yards an attempt.  If Beechwood holds the Owensboro Catholic passing attack to similar numbers, the Aces are in trouble.  Miles Edge had a great game running the ball, and was the difference against Somerset with 153 yards on 16 carries.  He runs hard, and is extremely quick in traffic.  They need another big game out of him to have a chance.  Owensboro Catholic has a nice team, but I think they're a notch or 2 below Beechwood this season.  Give me the Tigers 42-21.

The full context of the quote was, “They don’t really have any football players, they are just a bunch of athletes”

I think you can see why the Beechwood “Football Players” took that personal, as MJ would say.

Beechwood comfortably, with the Tigers calling off the dogs early in the 4th.

I would love to see who said that and the actual quote.
