I can answer these. Coach Floyd very much wants this job and has not been shy in telling people that. I know him and speak to him sometimes at the gym and he told me as much.

As for the second question, he was undergoing treatment for cancer during the time of Coach T's passing and still wanted to be named the interim coach. I don't know if it was even considered, but I do know that he was not given the job then because of his current health status at that time. I totally understand that part, as he had a pretty bad case and had to undergo numerous rounds of chemo and a surgery to remove a mass from his chest. He has since been given a clean bill of health, cancer free, and really wants the job.

Now, I do not know if the administration ever seriously even considered giving it to Coach Floyd at that time, but it is understandable that they went the interim route with his medical status as it was then. If he doesn't get the job now, it is simply because the administration decided to go with someone else.

That's all really solid info...I appreciate that.

It definitely sounds like Coach Floyd is more than deserving of the job. I know he's been around the block as a coach, so he has the resume. He was second team all-state when he played DE at Boone County, and I wanna say also got his start coaching at Boone. He was at Cov Cath for a couple of years on Coach Wirth's staff, then I believe he went to Simon Kenton in 2015 or 2016, and now he's a been the DC at Conner for the last several years.

From what I'm hearing, the Conner administration is doing what they can to convince Coach Rash to stay on.

Definitely has put in his time. The thing I like about him is he is an even better person and his players really like him!

I don’t understand this one. The admin have known this was going to open since coach Rash took the job. Why is this taking so long? The kids are the one that get hurt the most from this. They are going to miss atleast a month of offseason work.

You saying they aren’t lifting weights currently?

They might be. But who is running it?

I would imagine the assistants that are still in the program or teaching at the school would take charge and run the show, at least that is my experience in the past.  There are many capable people on that staff outside of the head coach.

Does anyone know what coaches have applied?

Yes, plenty of qualified people can do it. A parent with free time and internet access can run a moderately successful off-season weight program. Bench, squat, power clean, deadlift, auxiliary lifts, and agility work. Make sure the boys know safe form, and they're pushing themselves. Sure, numbers won't be there yet, but it's not a great mystery how to run a decent off-season program.

Anybody can draw up a workout program. It’s not hard, I mean you can even find a workout program on the internet. But being strength and conditioning coach is not just making a workout program, it’s making sure guys aren’t getting hurt when they’re lifting and more importantly are reinforcing the standards that the coaches are setting and are not allowing the kids to get cut corners.

While missing a month is not a good look. It is not the end of all things. They still have 6 months to get these guys bigger faster stronger.

You have a lot of faith in the intelligence of the general public. I’ve been in weight rooms of different sports and programs enough to know even some of those individuals shouldn’t be programming or running a weight room.

Form, periodization, central nervous system, energy systems, readiness training, safety are just a few of the things you need to understand. What, how, when how much, and why are all important. Now in today’s age and the right time investment anyone can learn a majority of what they want. One issue is there is so much information out there one needs the ability to filter.

The upside is HS kids will get stronger if they eat, sleep and consistently lift. People have that in their favor. A parent would be much better off reading Jim Wendler’s stuff for HS athletes and researching Tony Holler for speed training. Starting Strength, Bigger, Faster, Stronger, and Dale Baskett are other good resources. Doing complexes would work also.

I feel like the point being missed here is that just because the head coach resigned, retired, or was fired, doesn't mean that everything just stops within the program.  There are still the assistants that were in place that can keep things going, not necessarily just putting a parent in there but that could work as well with the right parents.

The head coach is integral to putting in place and managing the system for how the program runs.  He puts the right people in place to make things run smoothly.  Coach Trosper and Coach Rash both had a good support system.  And anyone that is interested in taking their place as HFC would most definitely be a presence in that weight room.

Oh yeah! Usually when a new HC comes in, he usually retains most of the coaches from the previous staff. So the assistant coaches that are running workouts right now will prolly be on staff next season.
