I would say that's common in most cases. What becomes a grey area is when one or two of those coaches are also interested in said job and they have to decide if they want to be a part of the new staff.

I can verify that the weight room has been open since the beginning of December. During that month it was voluntary and weights began the day that school was back in session on 1/5. Coach Floyd has spear-headed running weights and the other assistants still on staff have been active in attending as well. Pretty good numbers, from what I hear, and there are plenty of capable coaches still on staff to ensure that the new weight room is getting put to good use.

Yeah. If they’ve only applied the Conner job. The chances of them staying is pretty high. Now if they’ve been putting out applications to other schools, chances of them staying is slim to none.

Pretty sure Conner has a hired Strength Coach unless something has changed over the past few months.

Anyone have any updates? Only thing I have heard, honestly don't know if it is true or not, is that there have been over 10 applicants and one application from another state to the south. I would assume interviews should be occurring at the end of this week or early next week if they are truly sticking to the KDE February 1st timeline.

I asked around a little but didn't turn up anything interesting.  I think this job has potential and should attract some quality coaches with head coaching experience.  I would be looking for a coach with experience that is younger and a family man that wants his children to attend Conner. 

Hearing that interviews are taking place next week and that a new head coach should be named either by next Friday or Monday.

R1, Yr 27= $87,645

Needless to say...pretty dang good, but it should be due to cost of living- namely real estate.

HFC Stipend- $12,947

Asst Coach Pay Pool- 2 @ 5,934, 1 @ 4,855. So, $16,723 for assistant coaches.  Not sure if you can split that pot up or not, but let's say you can and need a staff of 5. We can do the math....pennies on the dollar. 

There is a Weight stipend of $2,697. Either way...a school district the size of Boone County, a school and a program with the numbers of Conner and they don't even have $20K allotted for assistant coaches.

They sure love BAND, though.

Head Band Director- $1,996 + 55 Days

So, a Head Band Director with:

R1 & 20 years in makes a $25,323 stipend (Stipend with Ext Day Pay= Year of Salary Schedule Pay/ 187 x 55 + $1,996)

Head Band Director R1 & 27 Years? $27,773

AND...they get to do BAND/MUSIC related classes ALL day as their teaching assignment, WHICH THEY SHOULD/NEED TO BE DOING & one of those classes (at least) is ALL of the Marching Band/Pep Band members...usually last period/block of the day.

Guess what they probably get to do if like 99% of all high school band/music programs that last period of the day? GO OUT AND PRACTICE.

Head football coach/staff members get that kind of pay? Day job where they are in the weight room all day? One period where it's ONLY FOOTBALL PLAYERS? Allowed to go out and start practice....during the day? Guessing not, but I could be wrong. I hope I am.

I think that a lot of people would agree with me that Boone County could care less about athletics in the district. They don't even pay for transportation to games. That money has to be fundraised and paid for by the program or athletic department. They were the last of the "bigger schools" to get a turf field and it took an oversight and a multi-million dollar pay day from Amazon to get those turf fields. 

Luckily, there is a lot of talent in the county and programs thrive despite the buy in from the board. They would rather give their administrators and district office employees pay raises while they cut pay from extra duty positions (coaches)

They obviously don't, but sadly they aren't alone.   

I'm glad you mentioned the "Talent" part, because at the end of the day, in our state? It's the trump card. The beginning and the end.

I am pretty positive that your info in that post is not accurate, at least not in regards to how many paid assistants. You are right in the amount an assistant coach does get $5934, but on that salary scale it is just listing what an assistant coach makes. That salary schedule doesn't list how many assistant coaches. I am pretty sure each Boone County School gets 5 assistant coaches for football and each of them make that $5934. Then the freshman head coach also makes $5934, and then the assistant freshman coach makes $4855. So the actual assistant coach pool is $29,670, and then if you add in freshman coaches it is $40,459. In regards to NKY, Boone County I believe actually is one of the highest if not the highest in regards to assistant coaching pay. As when you look at other NKY schools, the assistant coach pay isn't that high.

Boone County actually use to pay even better, and I think they messed up going away from it. As they use to pay assistant coaches like an index pay, and would go up each year of experience that coach had. However, they then decided to go cheap, because they started having a lot of assistant coaches make a lot of money. Which honestly how they did it before, is how all schools should do it. It actually makes the amount of time a coach puts in more valuable. 

Which to add basically no school in Ky pays that well in regards to the amount of time coaches put in. Which is why more and more coaches are getting out of it. Especially when you add in how parents are these days, it truly makes it not worth it. Schools in general Boone County, and everywhere are going to need to start paying more IMO.

Very well might be....but, I was just going off the info that they gave and have posted on THEIR district website, so technically, they aren't accurate. ? All I could find was THREE listed assistant positions for HS football, however, they may very well be able to split that total pot up and the HC gets to divey it up as he see fits (some allow it, some don't). 

And, you're 1,000% right on that last part. Juice is becoming more and more not worth the squeeze.

I totally believe that about the cut in stipends, adjustments to pay for extra services....several have done that. Uncanny how many have either done that and/or not bumped them up within the turn of this century. 

This is from the NKY High School Football FB page, but it looks like interviews will be conducted next week.  Assuming to get someone hired by Feb 1st?

I disagree.  You go across the river and a 20 year teacher with equal credentials is making 6 figures.  This is a metro area and the cost of living is the same in NKY as it is in Hamilton County.  NKY schools are going to continue to have issues keeping coaches and teachers when there is that kind of pay disparity.  There are plenty of people who would drive an extra 15-25 minutes to get 20+ grand more for the same work.  And when you look at football, coaching in Ohio is seen as more prestigious and most schools have better facilities and support too across the river.  If NKY schools are serious about attracting and keeping talent, the districts need to dramatically increase their payscales for teachers and increase funding for extracurriculars.  The amount of fundraising that Boone and Kenton County schools do for every extracurricular is absolutely insane.  The teams are essentially club teams that to use facilities at the schools since very little of the budgets seem to go to the extracurriculars.
