Open Job: Conner

It has been discussed already. Chase Floyd, current DC, is going after the job. To my knowledge, they only have one other coach on staff with experience in a coordinator role but I am not sure if that coach plans on applying or not.

From what I'm hearing, the Conner administration is doing what they can to convince Coach Rash to stay on.

Not picking on anyone, but it is amazing how often I see that happen ?

Right, I meant before Rash took over.  To me, it would have made more sense to have someone in house take over who wanted it for a longer term than just 1 year.

To have 3 head coaches in 3 seasons is less than ideal to put it nicely.  Why not have that coordinator take those lumps last year and learn on the job.

Just my 2 cents.

I get what you are saying. Coach Trosper had been teaching Coach Floyd "the ropes" up until he tragically passed. It has been mentioned in here but Coach Floyd was dealing with some health issues that have since been resolved at the time of Coach Trosper's passing, but very much wanted to take over. I believe it was decided that because of his health scare, the principal reached out to Coach Rash to allow Coach Floyd some time to focus on his health. Coach Floyd still coached this season and had an "interim DC" while he was out for his medical leave.

I know Coach Floyd really wants the job. Hopefully, the plan is for him to take the reigns now that he is back with a clean bill of health.

In my honest opinion, there is no one better to continue on the tradition and culture that Coach Trosper had built. He invested a lot of time in helping Coach Floyd prep for this exact situation. I really hope he gets his chance!

I wish coach Floyd was still coaching at SK.

I think someone alluded to it but I would imagine given the circumstances, it may have just felt odd (for lack of a better term) to takeover given that case. Even more so, if you give it to someone on staff, like Floyd, that’s a tough situation/conversation if you’re planning to open the job up at conclusion of the year.

One area that Conner has not excelled has been facilities & pipeline recruitment. Facilities, with the new fieldhouse & turf, seem to be taken care of. The next head coach will need to rope in their Pwe programs. Other than 1 football camp a year, Trosper never interacted with any of the former Bandit/Cougar programs. You wouldn’t believe the talent they could’ve had at Conner this year if everyone stayed in district. But that’s how it goes these days.

Thanks for the info.  I had no idea the heir apparent had health issues.  That makes much more sense.  I for the life of me couldn't figure out why you would bring someone in for just one year.

Job has officially been posted. Have not heard how many applicants or names of any, yet. I do believe that Boone County is actually applying the KDE rule where they are not hiring anyone until February 1st - which makes absolutely no sense to me. I realize it is only a few weeks but it definitely puts the new coach behind the 8 ball a little bit in finding assistants as all of the previously hired coaches and returning coaches can bring in people now, while Conner's new coach will have to wait until after February 1st for those discussions.

Which makes even more sense to give Coach Floyd the opportunity since he already is in the building, knows the returning players and has more than a good pulse of the how to make the necessary changes to improve the program.  2025 was just a bad situation for everyone in the program so it would make sense, IMO, to have someone who can hit the ground running with limited hurdles. Coach Floyd has EARNED the opportunity and I know many of the Conner faithful want him to be given a shot.

He has definitely put in the time, energy, and effort. If he gets the job, he has to surround himself with some quality assistants since it would be his first head coaching job. That is the only thing that I think hurts him in this case. He will be coming into the game late and I am guessing some really good coaches have already made a decision to join another staff or return to the school they were previously at. I just wish they would have started this process over the break instead of after.

I know that they were doing all that they could at Conner to try to talk Noel Rash into staying around, which is understandable, to say the least. As I understand it there has been some further talk between the administrators and some other local coaches they have been interested in having apply for the job, but I was not given any specific names.

I could totally be wrong since I'm not plugged into the Conner very directly, but given the circumstances, I don't get the feeling that Coach Rash was necessarily just dropping everything and walking away from the football program the moment the season ended. I wouldn't take Coach Spritzky to be that type of person either. I would guess they have more than likely been helping Chase Floyd to handle the offseason strength and agility training up to this point. I frankly wouldn't be shocked to see either or both of them hanging around to help with the hiring committee, for that matter.

I realize that this is just what you've been told but it screams that this administration does not take loyalty and prior commitment to the team/school as a very important trait in their hiring process. It also tells me that they don't put too much stock into what Coach T was hoping would happen when he decided to retire before his tragic passing, which was for Coach Floyd to take the reigns.

I completely hear you there, and I don't disagree. But - and again, I'm not really in the know, so this is an honest question - do we know for fact that Coach Floyd wants the head coaching job right now? I know taking over the team unexpectedly after Coach Trosper died in early June is far less than an ideal transition into your first coaching job, but I would have guessed Coach Floyd was at least offered the job at that point. Does anyone know 1) whether or not Coach Floyd was offered the job prior to Coach Rash stepping in to take it for the 2025 season, or 2) why Coach Floyd didn't end up with the job then? Is it possible that he doesn't feel like he's ready for it currently?

I can answer these. Coach Floyd very much wants this job and has not been shy in telling people that. I know him and speak to him sometimes at the gym and he told me as much.

As for the second question, he was undergoing treatment for cancer during the time of Coach T's passing and still wanted to be named the interim coach. I don't know if it was even considered, but I do know that he was not given the job then because of his current health status at that time. I totally understand that part, as he had a pretty bad case and had to undergo numerous rounds of chemo and a surgery to remove a mass from his chest. He has since been given a clean bill of health, cancer free, and really wants the job.

Now, I do not know if the administration ever seriously even considered giving it to Coach Floyd at that time, but it is understandable that they went the interim route with his medical status as it was then. If he doesn't get the job now, it is simply because the administration decided to go with someone else.
