? The Knights Of The Round Table Venture Into The Wild West

Ever vigilant, the men of Lexington Catholic have patrolled the landscape throughout the heart of the bluegrass, leaving only one frontier largely uncharted.

The Knights said goodbye to the west sixteen years ago following an overtime barnburner loss to Lone Oak.

They take up arms now to heed the call of the wild once again.

The roar of Murray's Tigers can be ignored no longer. Their unbeaten record and potent offense have made them unavoidable now.

Wyatt Robbins is piecing together a Mr. Football résumé with every whip of his arm and possesses a vast arsenal of speed to distribute the ball to.

The Tigers will encounter their greatest challenge this week, in the form of Brady Wasik and a Catholic defense that ranks among the state's best. They've held eight of twelve opponents to single digits, including Boyle County to hand the Rebels their only loss this season.

An elite offense meeting its defensive equal is peak November football. Both teams have been masterful at imposing their preferred pace on the opposition, but only one will have its way this week.

The Knights march westward in search of greater glory. The Tigers lie in wait, patient but eager…. and hungry.

  • You really can’t look at that though. that's like saying you think Lex Cath could beat Highlands & X because Boyle Beat Highlands & X.    Murray is a tough place to play for a visitor,

That's a LONG drive to Murray from Lexington!

Gimme Murray in the mild upset.

Murray is a tough place to play for a visitor, especially one coming all the way west. that's a 5 hour drive with a time change to boot. Murray is a lot better than people on this board realize.

I know Murray is good this year, but I tend to doubt their title legitimacy simply based on strength of schedule.  I think their best win was going to Union County and walking away with a 44-7 win.  After that, not much to get excited about.  They shouldn't even have Marshall County and Russellville on the schedule, and they manage to avoid playing the best team in the region (Paducah) every year.

Looking at LexCath, they have the Boyle win, loss to LCA by a score, and they beat Central (common opponent of Mayfield) by 13.  I'll give the slight edge to the home team, but I think this will be a close game.

You might very well be right but they’ve played such a weak schedule it’s hard to believe I mean their best wins are probably Apollo or McCracken and neither of those teams could compete with LC. I just want someone to beat CAL and that’s nothing against them or their fans but it gets quite old seeing the same team win every year.

LC’s offense scores about 29 PPG & Murray’s defense gives up about 19 PPG so I’ll split the difference & say LC scores 24.  The question then becomes can the high powered Murray offense score more than 24 against a seemingly stout LC defense? that's a tough call, but I’m going to say they do.  I’ll take Murray 28-24.

Murray gave up 56 to McCracken , I don't see how if you are a good team you do that. I think LCA has played a much tougher schedule and going on that I have to say I would be inclined to pick......LCA.

Murray has to keep their penalties to a minimum to have a chance.  They have an issue with those.

Lex Cath has without a doubt played the hardest non-district schedule in 3A outside of CAL. Brady Wasik is a really, really good football player.  He is their leading rusher and is very effective running Lex Cath’s passing offense. The Knights will bring their hard nose, discipline defense all the way down the WKY parkway to Murray.

Couple things come to mind:

Since Murray’s defense got healthy in week 8, Union Co., only points scored have been on the JV.

This game will be played on grass in November.  I may be wrong but I don’t think they have played a game on natural grass.  Rain is in the forecast for most of the week. Is this a factor for the Knights?

Lexington to Murray is about a 4.5-5 hour drive plus the time change.  Game start is 7pm central.

Yes, I agree. Murray’s SOS is not the best. Their district didn’t help. Apollo, Graves, McCracken were supposed to be better. Marshall is getting off of their schedule in the next cycle, from what I’ve heard. Russellville was a fill-in after Mayfield was put in a six team district. At the end of the day (season), the Tigers sit at 12-0 dominating “bad” teams.

Do the Knights end the Tigers season? Or does Murray make a statement by beating a high quality team?   I’ll go with the latter!

Murray 35

Lex Cath 14

This is very interesting game and I am very excited for Murray to strut their stuff especially that high power offense against a legit team and contender. Let's keep this western kentucky train going this week. Very ironic that Mayfield is going to Lexington to play a team that beat this team and that this very same Lexington team is coming to Murray on the same day wow. Could Lexington go 0-2 to west kentucky? I have seen Lexington Catholic play several games on YouTube and they have a serious QB and are very physical that's what wins most playoff games on the road but I will give a slight edge to the home team and I mean slight.

I tend to agree it will come down to LC´s ability to slow down the Murray offense. Very close game but I think LC 31-24
