Perfect candidate to be DC for the Pioneers!

Didn’t realize SK had any interest in defense.

In Brian's defense everyone in NKY knew Highlands would be down for a while talent wise. His team did win a state championship. He took over a struggling Newport program and Campbell has a history of having some good teams but never a great program year in and out. As I always say, right time, right place, right people. Good luck to Coach Weinrich on what ever his path may be. Our son was his teammate on the '89 state championship so I would believe he is more than able to retire from Kentucky public education.

I would say Newport was not a struggling program when he took over.
Agreed on the Campbell take.

Only met Coach Weinrich once, but based on that interaction, he seems like a class act & if he decides to continue coaching, he’ll obviously be a great addition for any program.  Campbell County’s loss if true.

If I was in Coach Weinrich's shoes I am doing me at this point.  I want the right teaching job and if I am going to coach more it would probably be as an assistant at a really good program.

I have to believe that BW is retiring from teaching which is why he is also stepping away from coaching.  Very good football coach, but just didn’t have the “it” factor to be as successful of a head coach.  Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

4. No recruiting comments or allegations of KHSAA rules violations by any school, coach, player or booster are allowed. No comments about where any player lives, has lived, or where they are from in a recruiting context. This is not the place to report KHSAA violations. Feel free to contact Kentucky High School Athletic Association | KHSAA – Student-athletes of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow to report such violations, but do not discuss violations here.

The QB from that team and at least one other player that was very skilled are playing some place else.

This is incorrect. You are thinking of freshman this year. The 28 class is mostly intact.

If the job is open, finding an excellent young coach that wants to build a program and be there 20 plus years is what I would look for. Continuity is the best shot a school has to close the large gap between the have nots and the haves.  Look for a young coach with a young family.

It is definitely harder to rebuild programs these days.  It's even harder to find a young coach that will stay for 20+ years.  Coaching demands today, are exponentially higher than they were even 10 years ago.  The same goes for teaching demands.  It is nearly impossible for a young head coach with a young family to sustain those higher demands, while still being present for his family. There's not enough hours in the day to be a good head football coach, solid teacher, and the type of husband and father you want to be.

Something always gets put on the backburner and neglected, and I don't think people realize how much sports have changed, especially the past few years.

One of the best posts I have read on BGP!

You nailed it!

A name tossed out to me over the weekend.  Zach Deaton, former coach at Dayton and I believe on staff at Campbell.

Deaton would be a great hire for sure. Also Rick Honaker would be someone I would go after if I was Campbell. He just completed his first year as a head coach at Gallatin County. He has lots of experience at bigger schools, as through the years he has been an OC and DC at Ryle, and also coached at a big school down in Georgia and was a coordinator down there. Record wise may not have shown it, but he has created a lot of excitement down in Gallatin County in his first year.

I believe he would be the perfect hire for them, if he is interested. He would work well with the youth and middle school programs. He has lots of energy, and I believe would help keep players in the district. Plus with him being a Campbell alum, you know he would be there for a long time and would help rebuild it.
