Ryle did not have their starters on the Pabst long TD play. He was being guarded by a 3rd string player. Also, Bo Gay clearly tagged the QB before he threw that ball. Should have been dead. On the flip side, Verax threw a wide open TD they blew dead I guess for a 5 second count?? Not sure what happened there.

I don’t think Ryle looked great at all. Plenty to clean up but just providing context to conversation. To your point, Ryle scored all their points w/out Fryman. Beechwood scored all their points w/ out Ryle’s starting LB and Safety. But when Ryle “starting O and D” were on the field it was 27-0. The final quarter was 17-0.

More importantly to the discussion, Ryle could have pounding Savage and Anness all day and there would have been very little Beechwood could have done about it. Too big and strong. Add Verax to Lee combo and Verax’s running ability. It would get ugly fast.

Ryle also forced 2 turnovers, one pick that would have lead to more points but due to 10 play format, ball went back to beechwood.

Running clock game.

The goal of the scrimmage was accomplished by both teams. I don't believe we should get caught up in what the score was when who was playing and what it would have been if this, that, and whatever. Coaches try different players in different situations to understand strengths and weaknesses. They are preparing for a season and how to win a championship. Both teams are excellent in their respective classes. Both teams are disciplined and well coached. Both teams learned a lot. Great scrimmage from all viewpoints. Best wishes to both teams moving forward!

That seals it. Ryle wins big!

  • I know, quoting myself but after a lot of thought I feel the same way.  In a real game this probably would have been a Ryle running clock or close to one.  Before anyone from Beechwood gets fired up a

  • Because he’s 6’3, 215 with a strong arm and clean mechanics. Colleges care very little about high school production.

Did the freshman participate in the scrimmage?   If so, did the 8th grader from Beechwood get the QB reps?   And lastly, how did he look?

There was a freshman scrimmage. I am not sure who played QB for Beechwood. Nothing noteworthy I saw from whoever the QB was.

Honestly, the way this game situation quarter is going is the way I think the game would have went which is probably a Ryle running clock and if not so, close.

I know, quoting myself but after a lot of thought I feel the same way.  In a real game this probably would have been a Ryle running clock or close to one.  Before anyone from Beechwood gets fired up about this please remember we are all thinking Ryle may be the second best team in Kentucky behind Trinity and think back to last year when Ryle put a running clock on numerous teams including St. X.  With all that said, I thought Beechwood looked pretty good and will be just fine in 2A.

Beechwood controlled the freshman scrimmage, 14-0.

The 8th grade QB (Ben Jackson) did very well.

He fits the eye candy.

Emmit Queen is at his 3rd school in 3 years. Has yet to start a varsity game. How is he a D1 prospect?

He’s 6’3 220 and can throw. He fits the eye candy of a D1. But the offers he’s getting right now are not committable. If he keeps getting D1 offers after this season, that is when the offers will become committable. But 3 schools in 3 years and each school is within a 20 minute radius of each other is a huge red flag. College coaches are always looking for a reason to not recruit somebody.

If you are getting MAC verbal offers prior to your junior year, I think it would take a lot to not end up at least at an FCS school like Eastern/Indiana St/Youngstown/etc.

I think the three schools in three years are easily explainable since only one guys plays at QB. Elder - more developed similarly talented player in the same class, Cov Cath - a year behind one of the best athletes in school history.

If Friday night were a real game and Beechwood did not have Fryman, you are right. It wouldn't have been a steamroll running clock, but somewhere in the second half Ryle very well could have made it a running clock. Beechwood last Friday is not close to what Beechwood will be game 5. Beechwood has a lot of new that needs more reps with each other. Meanwhile, Ryle has the vast majority of their team back and is ready to roll right now. That is where things are as of last Friday in scrimmage number one.

Beechwood will be a much different team by game 5 than what they were Friday night. If Beechwood and Ryle played game 5, then maybe somewhere in the second half Ryle gets it to a running clock. We will know more about that when we get to game 5.

As a Beechwood fan I am glad we scrimmaged Ryle and do not play them in the regular season because I think the Raiders are a bridge too far for the Tigers this year.

A good hard scrimmage is good for your team. This scrimmage will make Bwood better in the long run. If no injuries then the scrimmage did it's job.

Did not win the job at Elder, you transfer. Understandable, Elder's QB is a legit D1 Prospect. Does not win the job at Cov Cath, he transfers. Cash is an amazing athlete. However, Coach E has developed some great QBs that have gone on to play college ball. What if he did not win the job at Beechwood? Would his parents have pulled him out of beechwood to go somewhere else? I am not blaming the kid at all, this is more on the parents because 3 HS in 3 years and they are all within a 20 minute radius of each other is a huge Red Flag for college coaches. What is gonna happen when he gets to college and he does not win the starting job? The transfer portal is not rainbows and sunshine. Lotta good ball players have put their name in the portal and ended up without a home.

It is more of calling a spade a spade. Transfer portal is already making it difficult for HS QB and college coaches are always finding a reason to not recruit somebody.

Fryman is good for at least 3 tds and shutting down the #1 wr. No way a running clock!
