That’s good. I think we have seen that wasn’t the case for many. Especially with how so many were always mad that Cal usually overlooked Ky boys. So just imagine the outrage if he brought in all these guys this year, and basically left leading scorer in Kentucky HS basketball history no choice but to leave if he wants a chance to play much. 
 

So just funny how quiet a lot of people are now with Pope. Definitely shows some people were just wanting to complain just to complain about anything when Cal was here.

There was a lot to complain about with Cal but talent was not one of them. How he assembled a team and how he coached them was another story. He definitely brought in top notch talent but a lot of time especially late those pieces didn't fit together.

I agree with you. However, what you are saying is not true in regards to many things others complained about with Cal, and on here as well.  Which one of the complaints people started to use a lot was how he looked over KY boys. People complained how he was getting one and dones who they say didn’t care about the name on the chest. When he could get Ky boys who cared about the name and would stay more than one year. Which gets back to the original point, on how many would have killed Cal if he brought in all these guys and basically forced the hand of a Ky boy after just one season.

Wow, our perspectives have changed so much.  We use to look at freshmen and hope they would get a little experience, sophomore years to begin to contribute, and then full blossom as juniors/seniors.  Now some look at freshman that aren’t all-conference, slam dunking and rim protecting guards as absolute failures.  Come on guys, Travis Perry is going to be a solid SEC contributor and will blossom in year 3/4 because his history has shown he has and will put in the work.  Remember Chris Lofton and the decision Ky coaches made that he couldn’t succeed at the SEC level!  Not knocking Pope, he wanted Perry him back.  Just questioning naysayers that have dismissed his game and potential.

I don't think anyone here is being hard on Perry. If anything Perry seemed to decide for himself that he wouldn't see the court much at UK.

I think he will get better but also know his weaknesses will be still be the same. I think he can develop into a good role player.

As far as Lofton goes, it wasn't that Smith and UK didn't think he could play...they just felt Joe Crawford (12), Rajon Rondo (16) and Ramel Bradley (57) were better than the 126th ranked Lofton was. Lofton turned out to be really good at UT, but no unbiased person would have taken him at the time over the three guards that UK signed.

It's funny how several people want every Kentucky kid available on the basketball team, but turn around and want Kentucky kids to be recruited over in Football.
