According to Professor Massey's final regular season ratings we have Kentucky #2 (Great Crossing) vs. Kentucky #66 (Montgomery County) in the second semi-final tomorrow.

Who do you think will win?  I will take the easy path and say Great Crossing.

  • Montgomery County can actually make shots so that automatically gives them a better chance than Cooper had. Even still, have to think the Warhawks size down low will be too much.

  • Moreno has a lot to do with that obviously, without that height I'd venture to say they'd be attacking the basket a bit more. Not that I disagree with what you're saying though, Montgomery Co would be

Great Crossing is the clear-cut favorite in this one and I think that they should win. Have the size advantage and especially so in the paint with Moreno. Have been very impressed with Montgomery County not only in the Sweet 16 but throughout the postseason. The Indians can shoot and they are very dangerous when they get hot. May be able to keep things closer than some would expect. But still give me GC.

This match-up reminds me of the semi's last year where Lyon Co pulled it out. If the MoGo can shoot it from the outside and play decent defense they can win, BUT you obviously have to account for Moreno down low. He did have a ton of rebounds last night and GC coasted to the win last night.

I want to pick Monte.  They will handle the ball and not turn it over.  The key is making perimeter shots which are never a given in high school basketball.  Moreno impacts everything in the lane.  I think Monte can create looks inside when Moreno is forced to guard outside the paint.  They just have to finish those looks.  No one has any answers for Moreno, but GC goes long stretches not involving him on offense.  It’s not the end of the world because he gets so many opportunities off the glass, however they don’t handle the ball great so pressure on the ball can create some turnovers.  I also wonder if Monte pushes the pace if they can beat GC down the court before Moreno is set up down low defensively.  With all that said, I think GC wins in an instant classic close game!

MoCo’s size and speed will make this game a lot of fun to watch.  Moreno will get his, but I don’t see GC getting 3 or 4 chances on missed shots.  Reed’s peskiness is going to give hobbled/or 2nd string PG fits.  I see this game being single digits and the Indians are dangerous late game.  In the words of Dick Vitale, “Upset city, baby”.

Can MoCo take advantage of the big court and run their way to the final?

Spoiler alert. I had J-Town beating Montgomery for the championship in my mock contest entry.

Don’t forget GC starting point guard Holman was hurt last night and may not play.

I don't think this one is close in my opinion. I'll take Great Crossing by 20.

Having watched both of these two, I am going to take MoCo in an upset. This team can shoot, handle the ball and frankly is tough. Just something about them being a complete team that makes me think they can pull this off.
Moreno and Dawson get theirs, but there will be no opportunity to run a box-n-one on the Indians like they did vs Cooper because they have multiple weapons that can beat you.

MoCo in a close one.
