Open Job: Boyle County

Featured Replies

Boyle County is an attractive job and warrants an established head coach. If the Boyle County administration won't budge on day jobs, they will not get a top-tier coach.

If a guy is too insecure to take the Boyle basketball job because of their football success, doubt he is a very good coach.  Mason County basketball made Mason County football much better. You ha

Wishful thinking by a couple of people.

Are you referring to the coaches or fans?

I feel very very confident saying that Dunbar will not be the coach at Boyle.

When I was at Paris, we played Maysville High and Mason County in basketball. Those two teams had athletes that would fight you and played very hard. I thought they could be in good in football, and they sure were.  Those basketball games were a big reason I wanted to be the football coach at Mason County.

If I am a basketball coach and watching Boyle County football, I would want to coach those guys!

I can see that some high profile basketball coaches would be intimidated by the shadow of Rebel football. But, there will be at least one really good coach that will see the opportunity for what it is, and will fight to get this job. He may have to be more flexible than some places, but it will be more than worth it.

Chris Lofton, Trevon Faulkner & Darius Miller playing football... it was worth being flexible. ?

Off topic but you do think Lofton, Faulkner or Miller could've played D1 football?

Does the phenomenon of early enrollment for high profile football players now change the landscape in your opinion?  Boyle was still solid this year, but without Tavey playing had a different ceiling.  I personally think it’s great for the individual to get in there early and gain quality reps, but it does hamper the HS basketball program.  I know these are unique cases but Driver is another case.  Which, I would  imagine he would play this year because he really seems to enjoy it.

That is a great point and I had not thought of that. Still… the positives far outweigh the negatives at Boyle.

Also, the potential to play in a special program may motivate some of those guys to stay and play basketball.

One very high profile college basketball coach told Lofton he would have to quit football to get a scholarship. No way Chris was gonna give up HS ? w/ his teammates. He told that Coach, “I am playing football.”

Admittedly, Chris is rare / elite. ?

That High Profile Coach is an idiot.

All studies show that playing on multiple sports in Youth/HS is much more beneficial to the athlete.

Actually, he is an excellent coach, and his success stretches over decades.

But, on this one, he was very wrong, for sure.

Many of these high level football kids love playing basketball. Quisenberry sure did and Driver enjoys it as well.

With a different basketball situation, I feel pretty confident Quisenberry would’ve chosen to play his senior year. Maybe UK would’ve pushed harder for him to leave early (than WV did) but, given the situation, I don’t think he was real excited about playing basketball this past year anyway.

Point being I think these type kids will most often stick around to play their senior years if Boyle can once again develop a strong basketball culture. Besides, the number of kids that come through Boyle that have the chance to play football at that level will be few and far between.

Quisenberry wanted to stay and play basketball an leaving had nothing to do with the coaches. His NIL is the reasoning for leaving.
