Job is posted until April 18th.  Which, leads me to think interviews would begin early next week with a hire being next week.

If a guy is too insecure to take the Boyle basketball job because of their football success, doubt he is a very good coach.  Mason County basketball made Mason County football much better. You ha

This does seem to be taking longer than expected. Does anyone know the classroom job availability situation?

As of today there are only 3 jobs listed for Boyle County.  1 in elementary (at Junction City) and 2 in Special Ed (Learning Behavior Disorders).

Therein lies the problem.  All rewarding teaching jobs, but all very difficult to do while leading a basketball program.

I agree but I'd say that for me personally it would be half the problem.  The dominance of the football program would be a problem for me.  It's not that I'd feel threatened by their success, it's just that when it's basketball season it's basketball and I would not agree for them to come in before school for weightlifting and conditioning, regardless of whether it was called "voluntary" or not.  Whether or not it hurts the basketball players has been beaten to death on this board and I don't want to open a can of worms.  I've seen video of their off season football training and as far as I'm concerned I wouldn't want my basketball players doing it, especially during the season.

When you start making kids choose, that's when kids start quitting your program. If you made Boyle kids choose I'm not sure whoever the Coach was would like what he was left with.

Most athletic teams at Boyle are solid and competitive. Lifting and conditioning don't make you bad for any sport, look at the Houston Men's Basketball team. The development of student athletes should be the key to all sports programs. It is a commitment for students to decide what is "to hard" to handle then they are forced with a decision. If all administration and coaches are on the same page for ALL STUDENTS, there shouldn't be anyone quitting or choosing one sport or another.

I don't think them lifting is the problem. Having heavy lifting days on a game day is the issue for some. IMO, they can't be well-rested and ready to go after destroying their muscles earlier in the morning. Lifting throughout the season shouldn't be an issue, but if I was the coach I would have an issue with it on game days.

That is why you work together on a schedule for "max days" and such. There are a lot of teams that lift and max during the season continually. It is a matter of philosophy and smart training. ALL ABOARD???

The conversation has veered off the rails into whether or not to lift during the season.  I believe in lifting during the season BUT it's different than what football off season lifting looks like.  It's definitely different from what I've seen coming from Boyle in their videos.  That's not the point.  The point I'm making, and it's my opinion, agree or disagree, is that it should be 100% up to the basketball coach during basketball season.  If he wants to lift 5x per week that's his decision.  And, there should be no pressure, implied or stated, from any other program to do anything else.  I'm not claiming the the Boyle football coaches pressure the dual sport athletes.  In a program as successful as theirs the kids can pressure themselves.  They can get it into their head that they'll get behind or lose their starting job if they don't train for football during basketball season.  Some can even go to the extreme of quitting basketball altogether because they think it will hurt their football prospects.

I enjoy this thread. Been a Rebel basketball fan since I was 4. And, spent 19 years at a school that was GREAT at basketball... Mason County. Very thankful for that time there. So, I can relate to this situation.

No place is perfect. But, there is a way to find solutions.  David Christopher (Principal) & Travis Leffew (AD) know that basketball success is important in that school. They want Boyle to be good in everything.

When I went to Mason, some people thought I was nuts for doing so because of their basketball success.  It turned out great and if I went back to 1996, I would absolutely do it again.

If I didn't love coaching football for the Bearcats, I would apply for the Boyle Basketball position. ?

Bob Gorley and Morris Allen Stewart would be my assistants. Gippy Graham would be in a consultant role.  Jeff Hester would be our Strength Coach. Paul Dean would be our video guy. Ed Rall would do our stats. Mike Harmon would be in charge of post practice conditioning.  Chris Mason would be in charge of pregame meals. Chuck Smith would be in charge of motivation.

Don't think we would not win and have a blast!  ?

Coach, so good to see a positive post when multiple sports are involved. Great insight to a difficult decision. Not saying this because I was named in your fantasy staff, but because you have been there and enjoyed success in a similar situation. Always enjoy your posts. Keep them coming.

Boyle football coaches aren’t responsible for the success of the basketball program.  Just tricky, I would suppose when they’re the shot callers on the position.  Laffew has been an AD for a long time, so he has experience with it.

It has been close vested.  I haven’t heard much on it since early in process.  Interested to see who it ends up being.

I've heard that Coach Gilbert who was at Green and Coach Breeze who was at Adair have both applied.

Both Solid Coaches. Breeze really worked well with football at Adair, even though Adair was typically not very good at football. His basketball players worked out during weightlifting except on gamedays I believe. That was the case a few years ago when I was more familiar anyways. Also knew a couple other names thrown around earlier, all would be great hires IMO. Hagen Tyler and Keith Adkins are both great, Keith Coached Hagen at Campbellsville also. Not sure of their relationship, Could both of them head to Boyle and coach together?
