Ole Miss 98 Kentucky 84

Featured Replies

Final.  This was the most points that Ole Miss had ever scored against Kentucky. The Cats lost their 4 game in their last 5 and now fall to 4-5 in the SEC.

Four straight games we've kept the opponent from scoring 100.

Progress!

Ole Miss had 24 assists, and ONE turnover.  That's all that needs to be said about this one.  You can't run a fast break drill with no defense and not have more turnovers than that.

Yikes.

All I can say is, I’m glad I was busy and couldn’t watch this.

They did play some better in the second half but it is clear that without Lamont Butler this team is headed nowhere. There's no defensive aggression and starting the offense takes forever. I've said all season that Kentucky is a fun but deeply flawed team. The lack of athleticism is jarring, especially minus Butler.

I would add Carr as well because he is a shell of himself.  They miss his presence on the offensive end.

Cal beat them twice.

This! They were a bad defensive team even with Butler, but even worse without him. It’s just bad.

The one-turnover stat is amazing and more of a statement of how bad Kentucky is on defense. Given that Ole Miss had one turnover, shot 55%, and was 13/30 from three, it's a miracle they didn't win by 25+.

I've said this all year. It looks like a team full of seniors not destined for next-level basketball. Everyone is solid, but that's about it.

UK is currently 10th in the SEC. For reference, teams 9-16 start conference tournament action on Wednesday and could play up to five games in five days. 5-8 get a bye, 1-4 get a double-bye.

UK is still in the mix to at least get a first-round bye and be in that 5-8 range. They would likely need to go 7-2 or 8-1 down the stretch to sniff the top 4. That ain't happening.

And for many years that would have been sufficient in the Southeastern Conference. However, with the league being full of athletes that are also really good basketball players (not always the case in previous SEC season), that's a recipe for struggles for Kentucky.
