Danville names Steve Stonebraker head coach

Featured Replies

Stonebraker comes to 'Title Town' from Adair County, where he just led the Indians to a 10 win season. He's accrued 127 career wins across stints at Casey County, Garrard County, Woodford County, Jeffersontown, and Adair.

This feels like a great hire for the Admirals, if the support is there from both the community and administration. Stonebraker has a long track record of success at places you don't associate with winning and he's been at it a long time. At 50-ish years of age, you'd think there's still plenty of tread on the tires.

This is a huge, huge win for Danville.

Congrats Coach Stonebraker!

Love everything about this! With the names mentioned in the last few days, Danville wasn’t going to go wrong with either.

Danville IS NOT left for dead, as a matter of fact, I’ll go on record in saying that things can be righted back to where Danville is a major player come November sooner than later.

The new administration is THERE.  The talent, especially coming up in the younger ranks is THERE.  The support from the community to see this program rise from the ashes is THERE.

I don’t know that the sting for how Clevenger was done wrong will ever go away from a few years ago.  Heck, Stoney himself would even tell you that was wrong- I don’t know many coaches across the state that wouldn’t, but as the saying goes “time heals all wounds”. Clay has things rolling in the Briar Patch, and that will only continue…now Danville is in a place to get the ball rolling once again.

Good hire.  Heard early in the process he was a top target.  His offense, combined with the talent Danville has, could be scary in the years to come!

I like this a lot. He has done a great job of taking programs at a low point and leaving them off better.

Danville fans I ask you to be patient. This will take some time but Stonebreaker should build something closer to Danville standards if he is given the freedom to work.

He can change this around a lot faster than people may expect. Despite their record, Danville had talent on this year's team. We'll see what they do with the schedule, but I  can see a .500 record next year.

I’m excited to see what he can do at Danville.  His offense will be a lot of fun to watch with the talent they have there.  I know someone has already mentioned his coaching experience, but he has also coached 2 years at Centre.  If my memory serves me right, it was between the Garrard and Wolford Co. jobs.  He’s also the only coach in Casey County’s 52 season history to have an overall winning record. (54-40 in 9 seasons) 4 playoff wins (only 6 in school history), owns the only district title and only regional runner-up trophy the school has ever had.

Stonebraker said on the Joe Mathis Show this morning that middle school coach Kelvin Turner would be moving up to the high school as an assistant. I think that's a big deal, especially with the talent in their 8th grade class coming into high school. Danville always has talent but they can't keep losing kids to other schools. Patience will be necessary, but success (especially compared to the last couple of years) shouldn't be too far away.

If they can keep the talent they will be fine very soon.

Great hire for Danville, I am happy for them for getting Stonebraker as their new coach. If other necessary pieces are in place, this could be just the change that Danville needs.

This is a great hire for Danville football. Coach Stonebraker is an elite football coach. On Twitter this morning, Coach told Joe Mathis he would be keeping Jeremy Vaught and bringing up Coach Turner from Bate Middle. If you ask me, both of those hires are another success for Danville Football.

My main question going forward would be who else is Coach Stonebraker going to bring on staff? This rebuild will require many hands on deck. And, with Coach Turner going to Danville High, who replaces him at Bate? I think both questions are crucial in the next few weeks to helping rebuild Danville Football.

CAL played Bate 8th grade in the MS playoffs this year.  They have a few really good athletes that will help them immediately.  Honestly, I think that's the angle to push to many of those kids in that you have the opportunity to play right away vs. go sit for a year or two at other schools.

I wouldn't be surprised for Breece Hayes to join his staff.

They’ve got the hands on deck. The support is there.

Tyson Prewitt would be who will take over the MS program at Bate.  He was part of at least one, maybe two of Danville’s early 2000’s title team(s).  He’s been coaching with Turner for several years at the MS level, and an added bonus is that he’s also in the school system….at Bate.

The Bate program has been KT’s baby for years, either as an assistant or as their HC. I’d be willing to go out on a limb and say that neither he, nor Stoney, would have wanted to make the jump up to DHS from Bate if they both didn’t know that the youngins weren’t going to be in good hands.

1- Because what it means to KT.

2- Stoney also knows that who is leading your Middle School? While they are the head coach of it? They are also probably the most, or can be argued, that they are the most important “assistant” a high school program has.

If they aren’t playing in middle school & having some fun doing it? Makes it all the more unlikely (in most cases) to get them to come out when they get to high school, as you know.
