The Tigers come off their first loss of the season and return home to host Gallatin County, who just won their first game of the season. This will be homecoming night for the Tigers. Game time as always at Beechwood is 7:30. This game will be the start of district play for both Beechwood and Gallatin County. The player to watch for the Wildcats is #32 Dawson Schlueter. Schlueter leads the Wildcats in rushing, receiving, scoring and tackles. The Tigers will be led in this game by their senior skills player trio of QB Clay Hayden, RB Chase Flaherty and WR/S James Cusick. Can Schlueter keep the Wildcats competitive in this game?

Time to start the running clocks.  Competing in a 6 team district is a major RPI disadvantage and their traditional early season big boy schedule should have them prepared for the 2A post season gauntlet.  BW should toss at least 3 shutouts in their next 5.  GC should be the game to show these Tigers can play D.

This week's results in 2A will go a long way in setting the stage in the KHSAA RPI standings for the playoffs. Beechwood is playing their lowest RPI team this week. Murray is playing a 6A school. Mayfield is playing a 6A school. Those two should win their 6A games and get a nice boost in RPI. Let's see how close those two are to Beechwood in RPI after this week.

Murray and Mayfield have a stronger RPI district so they will gain ground a little in district play. But they have to play each other, so the loser of that game is going to take a zero in KHSAA RPI. And the winner of that game very well could leapfrog Beechwood in KHSAA RPI. There may not be much drama in these district games the rest of the way but there will be drama in how the results impact KHSAA RPI.

I know Beechwood has no control over it because of how districts are set up, but this game really shouldn’t be happening. Gallatin County is Dayton’s only win on the season so far and Beechwood’s only loss is to Covington Catholic, which is enough alone to tell the differences.
