Woodford County at Pulaski County Predictions/Updates

Pulaski comes into this game with an unexpected bye week after Corbin was one of the SEKY teams that cancelled due to the I75 shooter. They're 2-1 and have won two straight. They've been balanced this year with Zak Anderson throwing for 615 and 8 TDs and their ground game bolstering 592 and 8 TDs on the year. Defensively they're allowing just under 20 points per game. 

Woodford comes into this one 4-0 with the latest over Warren CA in Cali. I've not seen the stats on this one but from what I saw on X, Wertzler had a solid game. Woodford will likely be preparing on a short week from having to fly back from California and get back in routine. 

Does the long trip have any effect on the Yellow Jackets? Can Pulaski make a statement win over an undefeated 5A contender? Who ya got?!

Talk about a toss up, I really think this game could go either way. Pulaski 28

This is going to be an absolute battle. Not sure how well the Jackets come back and overcome the jet lag but I think the athleticism they have gives them the edge! Pulaski will be prepared and ready to go for sure!

Both these teams are lurking in the 5A race this year.  The winner will certainly have a leg up in the RPI battle as well.

Like some above, I really think it could go either way.  Good luck to both teams!  And no injuries!

Going with the Maroons

This I'd definitely a statement game for both teams. Woodford has wins over a few so-so teams in Kentucky and a win over a California team that we don't know too much about aside from their winless record this season. The Yellow Jackets are out to prove that they are a legitimate 5A contender with this game.

Pulaski County almost pulled off a win against a very good 2A Beechwoood team, put a shellacking on a floundering 2A Danville team, and had a solid win over 6A George Rogers Clark. They're also looking to cement their position as a legitimate 5A contender with a win over a quality 5A opponent.

I have a feeling this could be a statement win for Coach Burns and the Maroons.

If I said I had a read on this one, I'd be lying through my teeth (fingers?). The margins appear razor thin on paper. The victor has a foundational win to hang its hat on. Woodford's potential for a west coast hangover and the game being at Pulaski has me favoring the Maroons, but ever so slightly. 

I like Pulaski, but they can't get lulled to sleep like they did last year on the jet sweep pass from Wertzler to Makhi Smith. Smith gives the Jackets a genuine match-up advantage. If you lose sight of him, you get what's coming to you.

Both programs look like fixtures among the top of 5A for years to come, which makes this game all the more intriguing.

Just because I was curious, I went to check this on Calpreps since they have a strength of schedule rating. Neither schedule was rated super strong, but they have Woodford playing a tougher one. The win out in California was better than anyone Pulaski has beat. Mix in Danville being rated 11,000th and the worst opponent for Woodford being ranked 7,000th and I guess that's how you get those ratings.

All that said, I think this is a good test for Pulaski. We're used to the Maroons being near the top of Class 5A but they haven't been for a few years. If they are taking that step forward this year - and I think they are - then this is a game that should be very competitive.

Tough one to pick. I felt like Woodford was likely a contender already. If Pulaski wins, that makes them one in my opinion. I think this is probably a close game for whoever wins. If either wins more convincingly, it may say that they are better than some may have thought. Good luck to both teams.

I get what you are saying.  But I think Beechwood and GRC are both better than anyone Woodford has played.  I also don't go with Calpreps as much as others probably do.  Make no mistake, it is far superior to KHSAA's RPI algorithm, but it's not foolproof.  It picked Boyle to get beaten soundly in Ohio and picked Bullitt East to lose its last 4 games of its title season. I don't really know what to make of the team from California.  I like that Pulaski has been in a couple of tight games also.  Woodford may indeed win, I just like the schedule that Pulaski has played more.  With the exception of the Danville game, which was an obvious waste of time for both teams.

We love Lake Cumberland Sports around here. You guys do a great job and produce a high quality viewing experience.
