This is my official #FireScheyer thread.

I know he isn’t the answer long term.  He’s proven that.

Unfortunately he is arguably the best recruiter in college basketball so his job is most likely pretty safe for awhile.

I’m just starting this thread so we can track how long it takes for Duke to come to their senses.

I feel like how UK fans used to be when they would say….”if he can’t win it all next year with the kids he has coming in…..”

I’ve seen this movie before.  It just had a different cast.

There’s no way that THIS particular team shouldn’t be much better than what they are.

That’s on the coach.

We’ll see what happens.

Never be the guy who follows the legend.  Be the guy who replaces that guy.

I look forward to seeing who that guy will be.   I’m wide open today.  Taking all applications.  Brotherhood or not.

They need to abandon the "keep it in the family" crap.  Leave that to little brother in Chapel Hill.  Go get the best guy you can.  You're Duke.  Arguably the most attractive job in college basketball.

There really aren't that many accomplished ex-Coach K players that are winning as coaches.   Chris Collins at Northwestern would be the most successful recently.   Tommy Amaker was nothing at Michigan and has been up and down at Harvard.    Can they talk Quinn Snyder back to the college game?  LOL

Hey @PurplePride92 it worked for @TheDeuce😃🤷‍♂️so you never know. Grant it however Payne has had a little worst results than Coach Scheyer. Also, Coach Scheyer has by far the best class coming in for next season and it is not that close right now. An early exit in the tournament this year and again next season you can say you were way ahead of the curve.

I’ve seen enough to know that any success he has next year with that team will be a fluke.  He hasn’t shown me that he can properly develop talent.

What did Coach K's last 7 years look like? One final four. Lost 8 or 9 games a year most of those seasons.

My take on this is the model doesn't win titles. Duke and UK are in the same boat. With NIL and the transfer rules, experience is winning over the most talent. If half or more your rotation are freshmen, only a lot of luck will win a title. UK will test that this year if they keep playing how they are and better. But my thought now it is the one and done model that is the issue.

There is some truth to this. Coaches can be much more strategic in players they want to fit their system after seeing them in college for a year or two. But, it also depends on who the Freshmen are. Cooper Flagg as a senior in high school (who has reclassified) would easily be the top pick in this year's NBA draft. And it ain't close. Transformative talent will generally prevail, imo.

Coach K copied off of Calipari and had the exact same results.  One title with the One and Done model.  Jon Scheyer follows the same model.  I could go on and on about Coach K’s final years and his legacy.

I don’t want that model.

Read on Twitter, that since the tournament expanded in 1985, no Champion failed to reach the semis of their conference tournamenet.

Great info.

Be careful when you step outside. That " most attractive job in college basketball" could be harmful to your health lol.
