Congratulations Cardinals! This was a great game to watch. We are going to the game. My son already called and said he is asking off.

The Tigers are going to be something next year. Good season.

  • Just a few observations. 1. I thought LCA was a good team. I think Beechwood is better. 2. Beechwood is well coached and just fundamentally sound in every area.  3. The Tigers did not b

I went and watched the replay of the holding call that brought back the touchdown with 8 minutes to go.

#32 for Mayfield was blocking a Tiger as JuJu ran by, when the player turned towards JuJu #32 pushed the Tiger from the back.

They could call holding on every play! Stop complaining and enjoy the win!

I loved what Mayfield’s announcers said about Beechwood after the game. They will be a monster next year.

Congratulations to Mayfield on advancing to the state championship and to Beechwood on a great season. Beechwood will be back.

What a relief to survive this one. BW outplayed my Cards in the second half. Shame there has to be a loser tonight.  BW almost caused me to stroke out. MF kicker missed at state last year and gets redemption, that is a story book ending for him.

I guess I was wrong about the score in this one. However, I wasn’t expecting a blocked fg and 3 touchdowns to be called back for holding. I couldn’t figure out why we had so much trouble with the halfback on the wheel route. I saw that in all the videos I watched. Any how, the Tigers were impressive in the passing game. They also were not super arrogant and taunting like we saw in last weeks game.

I think I mentioned that Flaherty may cause some issues for the Cardinal defense. Tough and talented kid!

I'm the type of fan that is simply relieved after a game like that.  Tense from start to finish.  Mayfield owned the first half, Beechwood the second half.  Great season Beechies.  Final round for Mayfield, let's see if these guys can finish.

3.4 thousand viewers for a high school game is crazy numbers.

Where was the broadcast this week? I guess since graves isn’t playing we can’t get a radio show this week.

Congrats Mayfield!

IMO BW made a massive mistake just not taking it to overtime after a huge fumble from Mayfield. Mayfield makes you pay for mistakes so bad especially at home. This game reminded me of the ending of the Iowa and Nebraska game today.

I’ve seen so many high school coaches get ultra aggressive right at the end of the half or end of the game when things are going pretty good. Then a massive turnover happens that cost them a game or tons of momentum. The pros do it on tv with unbelievably talented QB’s and kickers that can hit from 50. In high school when you have 80 yards to go and less than a minute, just take it OT. BW had the momentum.

I get the line of reasoning that says to play for OT.  Then again, Beechwood has a stellar QB and they seemed to be moving the ball downfield good late so I get the idea of taking a shot and you might be able to get yourself in range for a FG to win it.

However, that's a risk and reward proposition.  Sometimes it just results in incomplete passes, a stopped clock, and you stall out and go to OT.  But you also run the risk of an inopportune INT and that's what hit Beechwood tonight.

I was surprised Beechwood didn't go to 2 late.  If they had and converted, they could've finished off the game with the fumble recovery without the risk of the INT.

Lots of "what ifs" in the closing moments of this one.  As others have said, its a shame someone has to lose.  And congrats to Mayfield for getting through this guantlet the last few weeks of LCA and now Beechwood.

Whoever number 4 is… I’m a fan. He’s super talented. We were terrified watching him but enjoyed the talent. I didn’t understand what they didn’t have Zaye gaurding him every down. He’s too talented for an average corner to be gaurding him.

War Memorial Stadium has had 2 weeks in a row of instant classics. The Cards have beaten 2 excellent teams that pushed them to the limit. The bad news is, it doesn't get any easier next week. Geez !!

It’s a big win for Mayfield tonight.  Best of luck next week at Kroger Field.

Tough loss for the Beechwood team and for the Seniors.  Beechwood will regroup and be back in the hunt next year!
