What a great game with a roller coaster of emotions for both teams! Two great teams on the field tonight, and literally came down to the very end. Didn’t matter the cold weather, both teams left it on

Yeah, he probably didn’t run over any of the D1 guys on his way to the end zone. He did have a good game though and is a very good high school player that runs very hard.

This is now the second time you have made some kind of cracks at Cooper’s players that do have D1 offers. Which is very bizarre to me, considering they truly do have those offers. So not sure why you seem to go out of your way to make comments like this. First in the prediction thread and now this.

One of the D1 guys Alexander scored two touchdowns with multiple Highlands players bouncing off of him as he scored the second touchdown, and multiple stops on defense. The other D1 guy Johnson, Highlands bracketed all game with someone underneath him and over top of him  and sometimes 3 guys on him to try to prevent him from having 266 yards receiving like he did in the first game when they tried to single cover him. Then the other D1 guy O’Hara threw two touchdowns, scrambled away from multiple pressures from the D line while Highlands played coverage with 7 or 8 guys dropping to try to take away from the D1 receivers. So obviously Highlands thought very highly of those guys, since their game plan was all about them. Especially after being torched by all three in the first game. Which credit to Highland’s defense because they played a great game and made good adjustments in this one just like Cooper’s defense did in regards to slowing down the Highlands run game in this one.

You didn't mention the dropped pass in the end zone. You didn't mention the interception by the Birds either. I guess you don't remember them. ? Now don't get all bent out of shape, I'm just messing with you.

I'll just end it by saying it was one of the best games I've seen and the Birds will see you next year. No hard feelings on this end.

I watched the game and didn't see anyone on the field look that much better than anyone else on the field.

Congrats to Cooper!

The smallest guy on the field made some of biggest plays . That would be number 3 for Highlands, probably ran over some of D1's you are talking about on the way to the end zone.

If you don't understand the game, maybe just ask somebody next to you to help explain it.

Would like to see a replay of the half back pass for a TD. Looked like 54 and 71 were beyond LOS on You Tube feed. Might have been camera angle.

Uh ok? As a point a reference, #3 was not the smallest player on the field, #21 in white was and had a real good game as well. As for your “I didn’t see anyone on the field that looked that much better than anyone else” comment, well you must have been getting popcorn when those D1 players were making plays. Doesn’t matter I guess, there are about 25 FBS Schools, including several P5’s, that beg to differ with your assessment.

HHS will always have top talent as great progams always do. Cooper has arrived a year early as nearly everyone thought they might be a year away from potentially reaching this level. The one clear cut reason for their performance in this game is that the Jags were “battle tested” having to go in the road to beat Scott Co., Southwestern and now #1 HHS in 5A. There were no running clock games, no games to rest the starters, just pure grinding it out to come out on top.

NKY is blessed with great football and I am hoping both Cooper and CCH bring home Championship Trophies!

This was a hard fought dog fight of a game. Have we forgotten how many times Highlands/Cov Cath games went the other way from what happened in the Reg Season. It’s almost a little bit of a curse to win the Reg Season game since you find yourself having the mindset of well we can do it the same way as last time to win.

At the end of the day this was a great game with a ton of great players on both sides! Someone had to lose, unfortunately for me it was my Birds.

I think the point is there are D1 players on both teams.  All made plays. You obviously happen to think the Cooper D1 players are superior to the Birds players and you are certainly entitled to your opinion.  HS football in NKY IS blessed with amazing football talent and the upcoming years will be fun to be a part of.

Best of luck to the remaining teams in the state.  May you finish your season healthy and strong.

Oline gets 3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Looks good to me, great play call in that situation, even if if the receiver dropped it. The offense wasn’t getting anything going and that called was perfect.

If that was point that was being made I missed it.  I took it to mean that said D1 players were not better than anyone else on the field and that's not correct.  You are correct, there are excellent and D1 players on BOTH teams which to me means that the post wasn't necessary at all.  Benke, Alexander and many others are flat out studs.

Again, no big deal.  I am just pleased that college coaches are finally understanding that NKY has exceptional talent just like Cincinnati, Lexington and Louisville!  Hoping that trend continues.

These two teams are going to be fun to watch the next couple years. It will be a great rivalry with great sportsmanship on both sides. Already excited for next year's game. Also from Friday night it was great to see Cooper bring a great crowd to HHS.

I've been around message boards and high school football for the better part of the last 2 decades. There is always a guy that says stuff to try to get under people's skin. The fact of the matter is, the coaching staffs of both teams understood that both teams had studs and they game planned to give their guys the best chance they could.

Highlands game planned to run away from Alexander and double team the front side. They did it most of the night. If they thought their guys were better, why double team the front side? Either they didn't think they could block the cooper front 1 on 1 or they wanted to get movement. They succeeded some plays, but the majority of the game, they got no movement and the running lanes were clogged. Their adjustment in the second half was to try to bounce it to the outside where Cooper had an OLB setting the edge and then a safety filling from the defensive backfield. Again, they were able to seal the edge a couple times, but those plays were quickly corrected by the Cooper staff and players and the birds were again relegated to doing what they don't do best. That's what a good defensive coordinator does, take away what they do best and force them to adapt. Highlands did the same thing to Cooper. They double teamed the outside receivers most of the night, forcing them to run the ball, throw to the slot guys or rb out of the backfield, or throw into double coverage. The problem with that is Alexander is 240 lbs and athletic.....not many dbs want a part of that even if its 2 on 1. There isn't anyone in the stadium that didn't think #4 was on another level if they're being honest.

I'll go to my grave thinking that that game is a rout if Cooper doesn't field that punt inside their five yardline in the second quarter. That play is what made the game interesting. In the end, it didn't hurt and the I'd imagine its a mistake that will never be repeated. They're 15-18 year old kids out there playing, and I love to see them learn, grow, and challenge themselves week in and week out. Football at this level is an absolute grind and the game we all got to watch Friday was a testament to 2 great programs playing great football. Congratulations to both programs and good luck to Cooper in the State Championship.

He did drop a sure touchdown. Which in a lot of situations a high school kid would have a hard time coming back from dropping a touchdown that would give them a lead with 6 minutes left in the 4th. Instead of pouting and thinking about the drop, the very next play he goes across the middle and catches a 10 yard pass while getting drilled to convert the 3rd and 9. Which also got them in field goal range for the game winning field goal a few plays later.  So yeah I would say that is a very big time play bouncing back from dropping that touchdown, and shows the ability he has. Then the interception the QB threw, came when a defender made a great play and ripped the ball out of another receivers hands, but hey if you want to put that on the QB go ahead ??.

As I said it’s just a very weird energy you have brought with your comments first in the prediction thread and now this thread. Then you continue that with talking about a drop pass and an interception. Still trying to figure out what point if any you had with your comments both before and now after the game. Very weird.

Now I do agree it was an absolutely great game. Highlands loses a lot of great seniors, but also has a lot of good younger talent moving up. So they will be right there battling still these next few years.
