Cooper 17 Highlands 15

Highlands has seen plenty of challengers come and go in NKY who claim to be the "new rivals" of the Birds. Heck Conner beat the Birds twice in one year in 2019. And in the end, it always comes back to the Birds and Cov Cath and then the flavor of a two-three year span. Teams circle Highlands on their schedule. Highlands only circles one team on its schedule.

Go Colonels! ?

What a great game with a roller coaster of emotions for both teams! Two great teams on the field tonight, and literally came down to the very end. Didn’t matter the cold weather, both teams left it on

If you don't understand the game, maybe just ask somebody next to you to help explain it.

My immediate family has 5 state title rings, and 3 all state line backer and a MVP award from the title game. Arguably, one   of them was voted by the fans and coaches to be one of the best linebackers to ever come out of Highlands, Fort Thomas Living magazine. One got a D1 OFFER from Army. The same one was a starter as a Soph at LB on the 2009 team that was ranked number 3 in the nation. that's the same team that beat top 10 ranked Cincy X.

One of them went on to play 17 years semi pro at LB.

I got 4 guys I can ask and they are next to me, and growing up they explained it very well. These are my brothers.

If you were trying to be cute it back fired.

If had to guess Highlands probably definitely will have the Cooper game circled on their schedule next year, since they know they probably would have to get by Cooper to make it to State. Which if these two teams stay in the same district it may end up being a common theme for both teams having to get through one another to get to where they want to go.

A part of what made the Highlands/CovCath rivalry so great was that they were in the same class and usually stood in each others way in regards to state runs. With them currently not in the same class anymore, and possibly not for the foreseeable future. That rivalry while still intense, won’t have the same impact as it use to. Which Cooper will be a top 5 team in 5A again next year, and will once again be a hurdle Highlands most likely has to get past if they want to get back to making State like they use to. Hence, why it was brought up that this could have the making of being a rivalry. Since a good chance these two teams will have to go through one another again next year in the playoffs at some point and in the future if they both stay in same class.

Which is awesome that they were such great players and accomplished so much. That is definitely something to be proud of. Much like I’m sure you would have taken issue and said something if some random person tried to put them down and suggest they weren’t as good as said, and say things how did he get an offer from Army? Doesn’t seem like he is that good. He probably got ran over by guys not getting as many looks.

Would seem pretty ridiculous for someone to go out of there way to say things like that, right? Which is what you have done a few times now randomly in prediction threads and in this thread. Hence why you have gotten the reactions that you have.

These were two very good teams with lots of good players on both sides, and was a great game.

These two teams are going to be fun to watch the next couple years. It will be a great rivalry with great sportsmanship on both sides. Already excited for next year's game. Also from Friday night it was great to see Cooper bring a great crowd to HHS.

Agree and the place was electric. Helps the game was what it was as well.

I wonder why that is. Seems weird that all that talent can reside in Ft Thomas so consistently, more so than a private Catholic school where they can pull from all over. Hmmm.

Old money must attract stud athletes into the area. Crazy.

Anyway, circled or not, Cooper will be back next year. Looking forward to that game, but not yet. Still have another game this season.

Here is some perspective: Highlands graduates 25 seniors, Cooper Graduates 12 seniors, 3 of which play on Offense and Defense, and 1 kicker. Cooper returns 8 starters on offense and 8 starters on defense.

Yeah as long as Cooper has an average level NKY offensive line, no one is touching them next year.

I’m not sure you understand what some of the other teams in 5A will return…

Now this I agree with. 3 of the 4 semi finalist in Cooper, BG, and Owensboro all had really young teams and return the majority of their top players. Highlands loses a lot, however have a lot of very good young talent coming up and will look to make a run with their young talent next year similar to what those 3 teams have done with their young talent this year.

Recent history suggests perhaps changing that philosophy.

That’s a very true statement. Even 10 years ago when Highlands walked off the bus, the other team was already down a touchdown or more. Now the opposition doesn’t have the “fear”. The swagger isn’t back yet, but the current coaching staff have them going in the right direction.

If you played semi pro for 17 years at LB you might not be able to talk lol. Wow. That's really loving the game.
