No Rest For The Rebellious; Arduous Path Leads Boyle From 'Title Town' To Frankfort

Records: Both are 13-0

BGP 4A Rankings: Boyle (#1) | Franklin (#5)

Round 3 Results: Boyle beat Corbin | Franklin beat Bardstown

Series History: Boyle County leads 4-0 all-time

Teaser Preview: Imagine exhausting your physical and mental self in a game dripping with championship atmosphere and intensity against your #1 contender, the team thought to be the greatest threat to your championship reign.

Now imagine winding yourself up again to face another undefeated challenger… for the right to face a third unbeaten contender for all the marbles.

That's the gauntlet laid before the Boyle County Rebels after taking #2 Corbin's best shot.

The reward?... A date with Franklin County in the state capital. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

The Flyers' record suggests a worthy opponent and the personnel looks the part. But unlike the region final, nothing short of their highest level for four quarters will be sufficient. They nearly let a four score halftime lead evaporate against Bardstown.

One way or another, an impressive postseason streak will be snapped. The Flyers haven't lost a home playoff game in six years, while Boyle County has won its last sixteen playoff games in a row, at home, on the road, or at Kroger Field.

Anything resembling their memorable state final affair from 2020 would be a treat. Avery Bodner, then a freshman, enjoyed his first brush with the limelight, helping deny Franklin County its breakthrough title and kicking off Boyle's current three-peat.

That 2020 title game was such a great game to watch. For whatever reason it doesn't seem like too many HS games go into OT. This game ends with the same result, but bigger margin.

Boyle 40

Franklin 14

Rebs need to be on “upset” alert. Crazy to think a state semifinal could be a trap game but this absolutely is.

I can’t imagine a way a semi-final game against a 13-0 team could possibly be a trap game…

Boyle is I think by far the better team on paper. One thing that could work in Franklin's favor is how ready for this game will Boyle be after they have been told for weeks that the Corbin game will be for the State Championship. I think this will be the biggest task for Coach Haddix is getting the team focused on this game. If he does so the Rebels fairly easy if not it could go either way.

Boyle County is going to be locked and loaded. This is a state semi final matchup with an undefeated opponent. The Corbin game was quite possibly the biggest game of the year but for the Rebels now, there is no bigger game than the one on Friday because it’s win or go home. Coach Haddix will have these guys ready!

Way too much experience on the sideline and in the locker room for that to happen.

Rebels are the favorite, I reckon they should be! I’m rooting for the Flyers. When this season started I figured they were are 7-3 team, maybe make second or third round. Here we are are in the semi finals! Ready to play the villian!
