Dave Brossart was head coach and helped get CYF started. And I believe he did the same thing at Dixie while he was there too.

That makes sense, thanks for the info!

Is it just me, or does this opportunity seem like a GREAT opportunity.  My opinion is that this program will be a legit NKY team once they have all grades participating.  So much upside on St. Henry,

KTRS allows for full retirement benefits, regardless of age, if you have 27 or more years of credited service. Then (I believe) if you have more than 5 years of credited service but fewer than 27, you

Do you think Lickert would leave NC for St Henry?

IMO Lickert is chasing a title and is only going to a school that will give him an opportunity to win one. In NKY that only leaves a few options. NCC used to be one of those options. I hope I am wrong, because I root for NKY football as long as it isn't against HHS, but I do not see that happening at NCC for awhile. Even so, NCC leaves him a better chance than St. Henry so I do not see him leaving.

Sorry -- can't help myself here. Just what, exactly, has Lickert built at NCC? No offense -- but aren't they a program that use to contend for state championships on a yearly basis?

No offense to his championship level coaching -- but he came into a program that was playing for championships. They have yet to play for a state championship since he arrived. Would he be good starting a new program from the ground up? Possibly. Let's not pretend he has furthered the path of NCC over the past few years.

Newcath is 100% a program that expects to play for championships every year. One would consider that playing in 2 state semifinals in the past 3 season as competing to win championships.

Clearly Newcath felt the need to move on from the previous coaching staff for one reason or another. The two years prior to his arrival, Newcath went 7-6 and 6-6. Before he was named HC at Newcath they hadn't won a title game since the 2012-2013 season, I believe that was Caldwell County. In the past 5 years they've been to 4 regional finals, and 2 state semifinals, where they lost to eventual state champs Paintsville and Pikeville. If I'm not mistaken both those state games ended in double digit blow outs. And for what its worth, the Pikeville team from last year may have beaten several other teams playing for titles that day.

But this is about St. Henry, and their opportunity to build a great program. Not about coaches that are being unrealistically named potential candidates for the job.

We must be getting our data from different places ... the khsaa.org website has Lickert with 1 Semi final loss, 2 3rd round losses and 2 2nd round losses.

Wagner had 3 State Championship appearances (all losses) in his 1st 3 years, 1 3rd round loss and one 2nd round loss.

Which begs the thought ... is Dave Wagner a solid choice? Bring in Dave Schneider ... to run the offense? Those are the guys who played a large roll in their huge jump beginning in 2000.

These situations are always interesting to me. Inflated/incorrect stats for some guys, there is at least one guy mentioned who hasn't even coached before (who may be a good choice) ... I struggle to think anyone other than a coach with head coaching experience or a longtime assistant at a proven, historic winning program would be able to shorten the progress curve towards winning and being successful.

You need a coach who can manage expectations and winning ...who also knows how to deal with the biggest X-Factor: Parents. Throw that in with the fact that public school educators will shy away due to dollars, cents and lack of retirement ... you are looking for a miniature needle in a huge haystack.

Whomever it is needs to be to a point a no nonsense type of person with the players, his staff, the administration and the PARENTS. A lot of parents may see this as an opportunity for their "star" athlete to start and be on his way to a college scholarship, when most often that won't be the case. The administration must, must have the HCs back for a decent amount of time, and cannot cave in to outside pressures that may present themselves. Also the new HC can't allow his players to feel sorry for themselves because there will be some serious growing pains with the start of a new program. It's hard to stay up beat if you're getting your head kicked in every week, but it has to be positive vibes while also letting the players know they messed up X, Y, or Z.

Need to upgrade on the restrooms, was there for a soccer game last year....those are not equipped to be used for a Friday night packed house game.  Just saying....

There is a project currently under construction to add mens/womens restrooms behind the pressbox to address this issue.

One of the most noticeable problems at Newport Central Catholic is their continually declining enrollment. I'm sure that can be blamed on changing demographics, etc. But in the glory days they were always a solid AA school, then still a decent sized 2A school once the state went to six classes. Now they are among the smallest football playing schools in Kentucky. In 2022-23 they had 108 boys, tied with Caverna for 6th fewest and larger than only Phelps, Fulton County, Jenkins, Harlan, and Pineville. Eventually football is a numbers game and it is hard to maintain success without numbers.

This is insane to think about. I never would’ve imagined NCC would be close to schools like Caverna or Phelps.

In the late '60s, when they were in the GCL (Moeller, Elder, St. Xavier, etc ) they topped out at 780 - all boys. You're correct on the demographics, a lot of parishes in their core area have closed/consolidated.

The migration west and south had already started in the 1950s. There were a number of New Cath grads in my Kenton Co. neighborhood in the 70's that sent their kids to CCH, NDA, and VMA, and never looked back. There are old New Cath families that have more recent generations at Brossart too.

There are branches of Cov Cath grads that are now at. St. Henry. If St. Timothy's plans go forward, that might dilute the pool at those schools too.

They played in the State Semi's this year against Campbellsville....

With the Scott job open as well, which one is more enticing to a current HC, up and coming Assistant coach?

I am sure people have read the same thing I just read on social media.  Comments saying interviews are happening with the hopes of a January announcement.

Of course the comments also stated that they would love Coach Rash to start up this program.  I don't see that happening but hey I have seen crazier things happen in my life, so not going to say it can't happen.

IMO St. Henry is the better gig to go after.... A nice clean canvas, everybody excited about football....you have no history of anything bad.....It's a nice fresh start....You can build whatever you want the program to be like.
