5A Contenders Match Wits And Muscle In Versailles

Records: Scott (7-1) | Woodford (5-1)

BGP Rankings: Scott (#4 in 5A) | Woodford (#5 in 5A)

Week 8 Results: Scott beat South Oldham  | Woodford beat Collins

Series History: Scott County leads 18-16 all-time

Preview: The Jackets and Cards battled every year from 1973-2006 before the series went on a seventeen year hiatus. Scott County had the series by the throat at the time.

No better time than now to resurrect this rivalry.

As it comes back into focus, Wofo has morphed into a formidable program on the rise and Scott County has become a brand name beyond basketball.

Both teams have reputations built on strength and physicality, but quickness has featured prominently this year.

Whether it's Taylor (WC) or Huguely (SC) with the ball in the open field, Starks (WC) coming off the edge, or Collins (SC) and Garner (SC) closing in pass coverage, both sides have guys that can cover a lot of ground in a hurry.

This is essentially the de facto district championship game. And more importantly, the winner gets to avoid a likely second round playoff date in Fort Thomas.

I’m really interested in this game. I have the feeling this is going to turn into a “no love lost” time of series for these two programs. Similar to the early meeting between Scott Co and Douglas. You get two physical teams that want to bully teams on offense and defense it can get heated.

Calpreps ratings say Scott County is better by 2 points so this looks like a toss up. I'll go with Scott County in a close one.

I know using common opponents isn’t a good measure of future outcome. But the way SC dismantled South Oldham from the jump ima have to go with SC.

I can't remember who posted it but I thought that the NKY district in 5A was actually not paired up with the Woodford and Scout County district for 2023. Can anyone say with certainty one way or the other?

Lol Wofo 35 to 10. The Yellowjackets present a challenge similar to how FDHS matches up against them. Too athletic, and I'm pretty sure Wofo is bigger than them in the trenches. Let's not forget the home field advantage!

Wertzler is too athletic as a dual threat QB, and the RB #5 with the track speed along with the freshman #2, I think named Tomlin.

I expect Starks and Sturgiss to be the lead tacklers and shut down the other team's offense before it gets going!

WoFo isn’t going to hold Scott Co to 10 points. They also aren’t anywhere close to the Douglas teams Scott Co played. I do think it’s going to be a physical nasty game no matter the score that will set the tone for a rivalry over the next three seasons.

They do play the NKY district in the first round.

Scott County. Bold prediction: RC cola.

Game time has been moved up to 7:01 on this one.

in 5A, District 5 (Woodford/Scott Co.) will be paired with District 6 (NKY). The confusion comes with 6A and their sister district modifications. The way it was written makes it look like it could be for all classes but it is only for 6A.

Woodford is too athletic for Scott. I’m taking the Jackets! Looks like they have found new life in a change at QB!

WC - 35

SC - 28

There are a small amount of teams that are more athletic than Scott Co. Even the ones that are there is a smaller amount that can prepare for them.
