Can you post the same for Trinity so we can compare them with this one?

Basically, you’re punished for playing ANY out of state competition.  You could play the #1 team from a state & win or play the worst team from a state & your opponent RPI for that game is .51060.  It’s something the KHSAA needs to learn how to tweak & has been since the inception of RPI.

I think the biggest problem with RPI is the game factor based on size of school. A school that beats the worst school in 6A gets more credit in RPI than beating an undefeated #1 ranked team in 3A or 4A.

RPI or not, the teams that show up in Regional and Semi final games are the ones that have won their way through. Our RPI will go down the next couple weeks, even with wins. I think by the beginning of playoffs, this gets shaked out. We have been fortunate enough the be in the top 4 or 5 in RPI each year. We also make sure we play the best schedule we can. A team that gets beat 36-3 does not necessarily mean they will not get better. The 36-3 loss is my best friend as a coach. Exposes our issues and allows us to fix things. Ultimately you have to beat the teams that present themselves in November. RPI buys you a 3rd and 4th round home game. By then, it shouldn’t matter. Ask Bullitt East.

Like you said it will shake out.  Home games in the 3rd and 4th round are nice but at some point you either have to beat the "powers" or you beat the team that beats them.

I still say if they used CalPreps this all would be moot. Teams that go out of state and play to notch competition would not be penalized and you would have a lot truer rankings. I personally think that teams that do this should not be penalized by not getting to have home games.

So X just beat Ryle and Ryle is now ranked 6th and X is ranked 11th. Makes no sense.

The KHSAA using this nonsensical rating system to seed teams is a joke. There are several teams above past opponents that  crushed  the higher team.

Male dominated Ballard 34-3 and has a better record overall but is ranked below PRP. X beat Ryle soundly last weekend and Ryle is 2-4 overall but several spots ahead of X.

Trinity destroyed Bryan Station 36-3 and whooped  X 45-10 but is rated below both as well as a Henderson County's 1-5 mark. And Trinity has played   4 teams in the top 20 in this rating system.

Meade County is 5-1 but well below Henderson who is 1-5 so I guess that  is based on the 1 point  head to head loss by Meade to Henderson?

This index has no appearance of a legitimate basis in math or reality.

I agree, use Calpreps KHSAA!  Come on Commish, you can do it. ?

This week's RPI numbers are approaching "typical" final season form.

• Last season's 6A RPI leader was St. Xavier at .688.

• The five year median 6A RPI is .672.

• The 6A RPI record is .716 in 2019 by State runner-up Male.

? ? 6A RPI vs. BGP's 6A Ranking ~

As in previous seasons, the further we progress week to week, the closer RPI comes to aligning with BGP's rankings. Nine of the Top 10 teams now appear in both.

Current RPI | (BGP 6A Pregame Rank)

1. Manual (5)

2. Male (1)

3. Bullitt East (9)

6. St. Xavier (4)

7. Simon Kenton (10)

8. Ballard (7)

9. Pleasure Ridge Park (8)

10. Ryle (n/a)

The lone holdout? BGP #2 Frederick Douglass is at RPI #14.

OK, I am not a math wizard and don't know the whole program

So someone please help me if I am wrong. But the RPI numbers are way, way, way different than they were last week. Did one week of scores change things that much?

If I recall there were 7 or 8 teams with 1.00000 or higher ratings and now the highest ranked team in 6-A has a .69526. I mean the better teams are at or near the top now but why such a big change in the numbers?

Happens every season, once teams in all classes get halfway into their District schedule, playing teams with lower WP, OWP, and OOWP. We're pretty much "in the zone" for the remainder of the year.

The numbers drop most noticably in 6A because teams can't "play up" and bank numbers like the lower classes.

Final 6A RPI leaders since its inception in 2018:

2018 .672 Frederick Douglass

2019 .716 Male

2020 .641 Trinity

2021 .667 Male

2022 .688 St. Xavier

Yes, I understand the ratings get 'better' as the season goes on.

But the numbers have never been that dramatically different. You are basically talking about 8-10 teams that saw the RPI number drop 30 percent. Again, I am not a math wizard but that doesn't seem right in one week. And it's not just 6-A. We went from 20-plus teams at 1.00000 (or higher) to the highest RPI now in the state being .87961 and only two teams in the whole state over .80000.

I just find it very odd that it's such a dramatic shift in one week.
