Heat wave this week

Featured Replies

per the KHSAA the levels are to be checked at each site, not use a weather app or anything like that.  Therefore, you could even have multiple sites on the same school campus that have different requirements based on a number of factors like surface, shade, elevation.

It’ll be a little cooler at the elevation though.

  • What did the hail sound like when it hit your trumpet?

  • Each school is supposed to have the trainer monitor the heat. I told my boss a couple weeks ago we couldn’t work on the roof bc the roof temperature was over 100F, and kids can’t play football if it’s

Speaking as an old marching band guy (trumpet) from the 70s.....we marched in EVERYTHING (and I mean EVERYTHING) from 100+ degree temperatures to ten degree temps to - believe it or not - hail (briefly).   Seriously.

My man! Most people don’t have a clue what us marching band kids endure during the summer. It’s much more than the football team, and I played football, so I would know.

Fairdale and Fern Creek have pushed their start to 8:30.

The heat index measurement is also taken where the players are.  So the reading is taken on the turf which is much hotter.

Oldham County vs. Shelby County is now an 8 pm kick.

I know Greenwood is practicing 5:30-7isham this week. There’s so much liability in this day and age, every precaution should be taken.

This extra precaution shouldn't be done for liability sake. Every precaution should be taken for the health and well being of the athletes.

Drove by Highlands yesterday early in the morning and the Lights were on. I'm guessing they have been practicing early morning as well before school to beat the heat.
