Marriage Advice

Featured Replies

I am officially ONE WEEK away from wedding day. To say we are excited would be an understatement. For the married guys and gals, what advice would you give to newly weds?

And yeah, I've already got the "Yes, honey" and "You're right." ?

Snag the $5 seasonal bouquet from the flower stand at Kroger whenever you think of it.

Thanks everyone! Great advice and I’ve definitely taken notes.  Yesterday was perfect. Couldn’t be happier with how the day turned out. Best day of my life.

9 times out of 10, just shut up.

I could (and should) apply this to my every day life.

You and me both.

Get on top of your finances.  Fewer things strain a marriage more.

Instead of doing things she likes or you like, do things you mutually enjoy, otherwise one will begrudge the other.

And what ChickenWyngz said.

Best advice is call it off, you still have time.  You're getting the milk free already, why buy the cow.

Not going to give marriage advice, but will give wedding day advice. This is YOUR (you and the fiancé) day. People get pulled in all directions and couples end up trying to do what everyone else says they should do. Y’all do y’all.

The old advice to never go to bed mad, is horrible advice. It's better to go to bed mad and give everyone time to cool down than to say something hurtful when you are mad. In time you and she will forget what you were even upset about, but you'll never forget what was sad in anger full of spite.

You'll find that in the morning, most of the things you were upset or mad about just aren't as important to you as your spouse is.

33 years in...this has worked for me.

I will also add… We have been together for 11.5 years, so I’m hoping that gives us an advantage that other newlyweds may not have.

I can only give the advice my father gave me on my wedding day.

1. What's hers is hears and what is yours is hers.

2. Never try to understand a woman. She will change just to spite you.

3. You getting ready to serve a life sentence without hope of parole.?

In all seriousness, some will say marriage is 50/50. I always say it is 100/100. You have to put all of your effort into the marriage. Whether good times or bad, rich or poor, sickness or health. Mrs. nWo and I have been married for 39 years. We've been together for 42 years.

Excellent point.

You all have been together for 11.5 years so you may already have figured this out, but create very reasonable and rationale boundaries with your family and your wife's family (holidays, time spent together, coming over, advice, etc.). If they do not like it; they can get over it; in my experience they grumble for a short period and it quickly passes. Your priority is you and her (and future kids, should you go that route), not your original family or her original family.
