TheDeuce
If you don’t know about him yet, you will soon. It’s been fun having him in Louisville. Dude is a freak.
newarkcatholicfan
In watching Louisville all I can say is in a few years he won't be in Cincy, because they won't pay him.

Few years meaning 6 or 7, maybe. But they paid Votto. Larkin got paid. If Elly is the man, they will pay him.

He doesn’t make a lick of difference on the success of the season, but you have to wonder how long they can keep him down there. National writers have latched onto his success on its now well known. #1 prospect in all of baseball and does something exciting every night it seems. Bringing him up now doesn’t impact starting his clock because it’s late enough in the season and there is absolutely zero chance they get away with starting him down next year.

One great player changes a lot of things on a baseball team. But it always comes down to pitching and the Reds top pitchers are all too young and still learning to allow the Reds to have much hope for success this year. Every starter for the Reds has an ERA of 5.57 or higher except Hunter Greene, and his ERA is 4.18. That doesn't include Ben Lively who has made a couple good starts. We'll see if he can keep it going. People knock the bullpen but just a week or so ago the Reds bullpen had the best ERA in the NL. It is the starting pitching that is killing the Reds.
TribeTime
Don’t get why he isn’t in the Reds lineup right now. If it’s his fielding, make him DH and bat him 4th or 5th. He seems like a prime candidate to move to the outfield but either way, if the Reds are going to build, why not do it with the best prospect in baseball getting reps. De La Cruz will be playing SS when he gets here.

He's proven error prone so far at shortstop with 37 errors in 156 career games. He has played at third base in 9 of his 32 games this season. A decent percentage of scouts think that given his size, speed and arm that he will be best served playing right field. His offensive tools are stunning, but, outside of his arm, his infield skills are raw.

You do have to worry about starting his clock, at least for another couple of weeks. He could still reach Super 2 status if he's brought up now. The last couple of years the threshold for Super 2 players was around 2 years and 120 days of service.
TheDeuce
Hit a 432 foot walkoff bomb tonight. See ya in Cincy, Elly.
Jumper_Dad
Matt McLain (SS) is batting .357 since being called up a few weeks ago. India (2B) is hitting .288 for the year and Senzel (3B) is hitting .297 in his last 30 games after a slow start. I can't wait to see De La Cruz called up but none of those other three deserve to be benched at this point. Friedl (CF) and Fraley (LF) are solid so that only leave Right Field and the DH spots open on a nightly basis right now. I think young players need to be in the field not DH-ing to develop, so that leaves Right as the only option. In a perfect world the Reds would love to move India to Right and McLain to Second with Elly sliding into Short. I'm not sure the Reds are ready to go with two Rookies up the middle yet. Just my thoughts.
Jack of all Trades
This kid will not be a shortstop at big league level. Just like Eric Davis he will be converted to the outfield. McClain stays at short, India stays at second, Steer moves back over to third and Senzel stays in outfield or plays a utility role. My hope is they don’t cater to a 39 year old first baseman to upset what they have going on right now. Infusing Elly into lineup now might be the thing that pushes them into a contending position for a weak division.

Just my thoughts. Don't forget who the manager is. I'd be shocked if Bell has started the same 8 in the same positions more than a handful of games this year. He plays matchups and lefty/righty and gets everyone at bats. I personally think young guys need a day off or two each week to let them observe and recharge. He will get his shot. I am surprised that EDLC hasn't played more OF in Louisville though.
