Tis the season, just watched Die Hard for probably the 200th time in my life.....just like Rudy, shed a tear once again!  That ending always gets me.

I rewatched The Deer Hunter (1978) about a month ago. First time I've watched it in years. Sheww...that's a tough one. I also rewatched Heat (1995) a couple of weeks ago after I had my hernia repair surgery and I was stuck (unsuccessfully) trying to sleep in the lazyboy in the living room for a week because I automatically roll over onto my stomach if I sleep in a bed. Heat is suchhhhhh a good movie, with top notch performances from essentially everyone in the cast.

Sat down and rewatched Dunkirk (2017) last night too. Really good movie. (Shocker...a Christopher Nolan movie that's really good. Right?)

Because of your post I started watching Heat last night at like 1:30am, almost made it thru before falling asleep….. they just walked out of the big bank currently having the gun fight!

For the record I remember watching Heat at the theatre back in 95, one of my all time favorite…. Plus it’s got Ashley Judd!!!!

I remember watching the special features on the DVD...so apparently to do the bank shootout they had like 2 hours every Sunday morning in downtown LA to shoot that scene. So between getting the set prepped, then shooting, then cleaning up and clearing out afterwards they realistically only ended up with about 15 minutes of shooting film each Sunday. The scene ended up taking like 5 months to shoot.

Once they approved the final cut on the footage, they sent it off to sound mixing. Michael Mann sat down with his cinematographer and a couple of producers to watch it, and the sound department had dubbed over all of the gunshots with audio-production gunshots. I remember Michael Mann saying in the special features that, "When we were there shooting the scenes, the sound of the gunshots was deafening as it echoed off of all the buildings in downtown LA. I was completely bewildered as I watched the movie with the initial sound mix because they made it sound like just like I was watching Platoon or Hamburger Hill. That wasn't what I wanted. I wanted people to have the sense that they were there in the middle of a shootout in downtown LA, not in a rice paddy somewhere in 'Nam."

So he had them go back and re-dub the whole scene using all of the actual production-recorded audio...so the actual gunshots, as they were heard during the shooting. That's a rarity in movies.

Haven’t been to a movie theater in a couple of years.  But I’m going to see Wicked as soon as it comes out. 

Haven't been to the theaters in a good while, I'm thinking about watching the new Beetlejuice movie over the weekend.
