Terrible draft.

I’m shocked you would have this take…

At this point I think the Bengals are planning to roll with what they got. Jonah at RT, allow Carman to compete for it. Then also allow Collins to recover from his injury. So the Bengals may not even take a lineman this draft.

I think if they draft TE Josh Whyle that they will get a steal at the TE spot. Then still need RB, possibly another Wr, and punter.

Well got everything besides the TE. The Jets are now loaded at TE, so I bet the Bengals pick up whenever eventually gets released by then. Wouldn’t be surprised for it to be either Uzomah or Jeremy Ruckert.

The Bengals were rated as having the 4th best value draft in the NFL. Which your Steelers was rated as having the second best. So it doesn’t seem like your opinion matches how their draft actually was.

I thought it was more beyond him being close to Cincinnati. Mayer is the man at TE and frankly I thought they should have grabbed him. He probably makes an immediate impact for the Raiders and would have several teams. Their first round pick wasn’t bad, but I thought Mayer should have been a Bengal. When looking at consistently successful NFL teams over time, a very good TE was always involved.

This team did sign Irv Smith who, when healthy, is a very good TE.   The signed Orlando Brown at one tackle and will get Collins back, who hopefully lives up to hype.    Once those moves were made, TE and OT were no longer the big pressing needs.   Would they have been nice, yeah.  But it wasn't a necessity.

This team was 28th in the NFL in Sacks.   They need to find a way to put pressure on the QB.  Hopefully Miles Murphy does that.   They need to replace Bates and Bell and add serious depth to the defensive backfield.   They did that.

This team was in a super bowl and backed it up with a AFC championship appearance.   I think they know what they are doing.   If we were the geniuses of this process, we'd be in the war room helping them make the picks, not complaining about them on BGP (no offense @theguru.)

I'm in total agreement with you here.  The Bengals know what doesn't work, they know what's been working very well as of late.   They're committed to keeping the offense together, building a better defense and filling needs when the right fit is there.  On the surface, so far, I'm not sure how a year Bengals fan could be disappointed with this draft.

I've seen a few of these draft grade sites.  Others give the Bengals a B or B+.  How do you not include the Eagles or Steelers in the list above?  Those teams hit the mother lode.

It seems silly to give these teams a 'grade' immediately after the draft. There's no way that more than 1/4 of the league's team should receive an A- or better.

I'd be more interested in articles that review draft grades 3 or 4 years after the fact to see how many of these picks actually make it in the league.
