Bengals Draft

Featured Replies

With the draft being tomorrow, I thought we should discuss our thoughts on the Bengals draft.

Personally, I would love to see them get Meyer or Kincaid and have a TE of the future instead of these 1 year wonders especially in a deep TE draft. Outside of that, they should take some DB help.

This team did sign Irv Smith who, when healthy, is a very good TE.   The signed Orlando Brown at one tackle and will get Collins back, who hopefully lives up to hype.    Once those moves were made, TE

nfl.com says Bengals top needs were OL, TE and RB and that Bengals like to draft to their need. ?

I have no clue what the Bengals are going to do in the 1st round.  A TE would be great but on some level that feels risky to me.  I agree the more good DBs the better.

A guy like Mayer (I don't think he will be there) would be really hard to pass up, but I struggle with a TE in the first round. Those guys take 2-3 years before they really contribute and the Bengals are entering a point where first and second round guys need to contribute NOW.

Duke Tobin's press conference earlier this week made it seem like they would take any player in the first round regardless of position (other than QB, duh) if they thought they could contribute right away. I think they would like to have them playing right away, but Dax Hill really didn't play much as a first rounder last year, so they may be fine with a TE who needs a year to develop.

If you take a RB or TE in round 1 then they better be playing week 1.  A DB or Edge you can put into a rotation.  I'd love to see a tackle but they are currently sitting with 5 guys in line to play RT.  It really depends on who falls.

That is a lot of chatter that the Bengals might take Jahmyr Gibbs, RB from Alabama.

I've seen all the chatter today on either Gibbs or Kincaid for the Bengals. I am fine with either.

They know Mixon is becoming an issue and his age will catch up to him so you find a replacement and move on. One of the receivers is going to have to go at some point, either Boyd or Higgins, hopefully Boyd and eith Kincaid you find a threat you can lock up for 5 years with Joe and Ja'marr.

Personally if you have a starting LT demanding a trade and some wiggle room in your draft capital, why not take a chance to move up and get Bijon Robinson?

I saw Brian Breese's name floated out there as well.   With Washington not picking up the 5th year option on Chase Young, I'm guessing the Bengals skip a first round DE and make a FA run at Young in the offseason.

It was a good theory. Murphy seems like a pretty good value pick with lots of upside at the end of the 1st round.

Now let's see what they do in Round 2. Selfishly, I want to see them trade up and take Mayer for the TE need and NKY connection.

I hope they do, but that is not the Bengals way of doing things.  If the Bengals don't draft him, I hope someone in the AFC North does and he sticks it to them twice a year.  The Bengals had the chance to bring the hometown kid home and they chose not to.  Knowing Mike, I am sure he is hoping the same thing.  The kid is a winner, would have loved to see him catching passes from and blocking for Joe Burrow.

If the Bengals were ever going to trade up, this would be the year. They have a starting LT wanting to be traded so package Williams with their 2nd and go get someone they want.

I just don't see Williams having that much value right now.  Jax drafted their tackle.  If the Bengals want to trade Williams and get anything for him it will have to be after a team has an injury in the preseason.

I wanted Mayer too with him sitting right there for them to take him. However, I can’t fault the Bengals for not choosing him. The reason the Bengals didn’t choose him, is the same reason why no team picked him in the first round. Which is this is the one of the deepest and most talented TEs groups ever to come into a draft. So teams know they could still get a good TE in another round in this draft, and so they could use their first round pick on someone else. If this draft class wasn’t so deep at TE, then I think Mayer is drafted in the first round and definitely doesn’t make it past the Bengals.
