I wonder where this goes in biggest margins in the KHSAA record books.

Gotta play 3 innings. But you could do somethings to help it out. I've seen teams make their players hit opposite handed, umpire could certainly expand the zone a bit, heck miss a base and get an appeal out, but you have to get at least 9 outs somewhere.

Agree, but I've seen situations where an umpires zone can only get so big.

You do anything to keep this from happening, just not good for the high school game, the Owsley Co. coach should rethink what he just caused, shouldn’t ever, ever happen.

Do we know that he DIDN’T try and keep score reasonable?

It certainly looks like his kids kept the foot on the gas but unless we know, probably shouldn’t jump to conclusions.

There is no room for the word “didn’t “ here, as the coach you do things to keep this from happening and there are lots of them.

Here’s the thing. The other team has to make plays, they have to throw strikes etc. Of course the winning team should take their foot off the gas…..no stealing, no advancing on passed balls/wp’s, not taking the extra base. But I’m not telling my players to intentionally make outs by purposely striking out or getting picked off, especially if they are my backups (who should be in the game). They deserve an opportunity to play and get real AB’s. Going through the motions is just as big of an embarrassment to the game and other team as losing really badly. The losing team bears some responsibility for the outcome too, and sometimes, throwing in the towel is a reasonable action in a situation like this.

Here is a tidbit for you. In 1993, Cov Cath beat Beechwood in the regular season 31-3. Later that year in the district tournament, Beechwood beat Cov Cath 4-0, knocking CCH out of the post season. Brandon Berger hit a home run up 2-0, that may still be circulating the moon.

The embarrassment here is the final score, you do get picked off intentionally, you do strike out intentionally, your kids have to realize the situation and act accordingly, because your team may be in that situation some time later, the coach has to lead the actions and explain the situation as they go along. Absolutely no excuses here.

Maybe I`m different but if the other team starts batting from the opposite side or getting picked off on purpose , that's called showing the other team up. I`m with you on not taking an extra base or not stealing or swinging away on an 3 and 0 count. But there is some things you just don't do.

Not different at all. Giving away outs, feigning swings etc, are all bigger travesties to the game, and not respectful. 

If you were the team down 37-0, there are no travesties concerning the game, they are going to say Thank You and think much more positive about the situation at hand. Been on both ends of this score and know first hand about the feeling on both ends.
