If they can land Cook, he would be the number one option. Steve Adams would be second in line imo. Justice would be an interesting choice, but I doubt he would have any interest in leaving Pikeville?

Adams is a good coach and a great guy.  He won region in 2015 and made it to the final 4.  He was 190-155 at Boyle.  Concerns would be the way things ended at Boyle going 9-17 in last season and rumors of inter turmoil.  He had losing seasons 4 of the 12 years at Boyle and several seasons just a few games over .500.  I think some others would have to say no before they get to Adams.

Has Cook ever had a roster where it was even possible they went 9-17? Short answer…not even close.

Steve Adams is a heckuva coach. He’s frequently gotten more out of less, and that’s a fact. And he had a final four year when he had final four talent.

And Josh Cook, regardless of talent, is a heckuva coach. He may most always have talented teams, but they never underachieve. 

That’s the measure of the quality of a coach, regardless of talent. Does the coach live up to, or even exceed, expectations?

While that is a connection and I'm sure Mr Booher will throw it out there, if you look at what he is returning at Pikeville next year I don't think it will happen.  They return several juniors that were in the 15th Championship game this year.

Don't think there is any way this happens.  He left Mercer for a better program with all he needs to be successful and to be close to family to raise his daughter so why return.

What are Booher's functions at Mercer, how long has he been there?  This guy must own a moving company.

Jason Booher is the superintendent at Mercer County. I believe he took the job at Mercer in the summer of 2021. North Hardin grad. He was the head basketball coach at Shelby Valley from 2005-2010 school years, and in 2010 he led Shelby Valley to become the only school in state history to win the All-'A' and the Sweet 16 in the same year. Then he headed to Holmes from the 2011-2014 school years where he was head coach and assistant principal, and put out some really, really tough teams with the Bulldogs. Then he retired from coaching to become the assistant principal and athletic director at Pikeville, and eventually took the principal job at Pikeville. He left there to become Mercer County's superintendent.

He's also an extremely good dude.

IMO Sparrow would be the last option out of the coaches that have been listed. He won a national championship, but the competition wasn't that stout.

Agree with that, but even more so a very young guy coaching his home school can be tough.  Maybe he would excel, but I would want someone a little more seasoned.

Sparrow is a college coach. He seems to be pretty successful, no matter his age. Seems happy where he is and in a prime position to move to a higher level if he wants. Already promoting offseason/summer workouts. Lots of people are sleeping on Kasey McRay. Mercer alum, in the building as a teacher, high school and college coaching experience, and well connected throughout the community. Some people want the big hire instead of the best hire.
