Now that I am thinking about it, I am not sure that there is a gym within the 9th Region to host the tournament. In the 8th, Henry County holds 5,000+ and on semifinal night it is hard to find a seat most years! 

I looked it up and Holmes only holds around 3,000. That could be a recipe for disaster. 

I wish the 9th Region had a place similar to the Mason Co. Fieldhouse.   Big enough to feel special, small enough to maintain atmosphere.

They had to keep Tuesday and Thursday open for NKU possibly hosting a Horizon Tournament game. The men have a game Thursday, the women did not finish high enough in conference to host. Logistics..

They are fine facilities and locations, but the capacities would really worry me. Like you and I both have mentioned already in this thread, there just isn't that gym that sticks out and is a great spot to host. If Henry County was not built forever ago, the 8th would be in the same spot. 

Moving it away from NKU would be great for the atmosphere of the tournament, but until a new gymnasium is built with the capabilities of holding over 4,000 fans I don't foresee it happening.

These gyms just aren’t holding enough people, the regional has brought in 7k for some semis and finals. Maybe could do first round games somewhere then bring everyone together in the big arena.

Exactly, everyone is making all great points but at the end of the day everything is honestly about money. No way they turn away thousands of people that want to come each year just to satisfy some who want a better environment. I personally go every year and think the environment is just fine. Last night was an awesome opening session.

Exactly! If fans from the 9th were at the 2011 Dixie-NCC 4OT thriller or the huge comeback by the Cooper Jags vs CCH in 2017 they would understand that NO HS in NKY has the capacity to hold all the fan interest other than NKU. I personally don’t have a problem with playing games at NKU because it allows for greater excitement and more fans to see the games live. I’ve been at regionals when it was held at Holmes, which has the biggest gym in NKY if I’m not mistaken, having to arrive AT LEAST an hour early if you want to get in let alone get a halfway decent seat or a place to park..

Yeah that just doesn’t sound enjoyable to me, the environment isn’t that far off at NKU. The pros outweigh the cons and that’s why it won’t ever be moved back.

Is the cost for NKU still around 25K? Wonder how much the teams are really making?

5000 x $12 = $60,000.  Not sure how it is allocated.

I have ZERO interest in attending a regional at any area high school gym. I LOVE going to the games at NKU. I go every year now that it is at NKU. I had stopped attending before it moved to NKU.
