Elsewhere in Kentucky.....Bert Bathiany is 1-0 against northern Kentucky football teams.

Did he apply for the job? If so, he seems like the obvious choice IMO.

Brady Dowling actually did a outstanding job. Just couldn’t figure out how to Beat Colonels!? Actually I think he got them once.

Some people are just great at commentary I guess. Grab a whistle and not a key board and meet me at the fieldhouse at 6:30am.

Its not for everyone!

Yes

Here is my reply to this statement.  Do something and then talk.  Now for grabbing a whistle and coming to practice, I would love to do that, but I work a job from 8-5 every day that does not allow me to get involved.

I think I missed one. There are 5. Bryant, Abner, Nevels, Cook and Welch. Wiggins is no longer on staff. Bibb is on staff but his son is not playing. Abner and Cook have Frosh players. I think that covers all of them??

Is Bryant helping mostly with Frosh or Varsity?  If he’s helping mostly with Frosh that means there are only two coaches that are dads with sons on the varsity roster and only one that coaches the son’s position group.  This certainly doesn’t sound like “Daddy Ball Reigns Supreme” to me.

Also, no one responded to my earlier question ...  Are we to assume that certain members of the Highlands community think these dads aren’t qualified to be HS position coaches?

So Highlands hired a guy that turned them down initially? That’s actually worse, IMO.

So, in real life business and employment settings, employers never sweeten the deal and improve the financials to get the candidate they want!

Bryant is on the Frosh Staff and his son is a Soph and well down the Depth Chart with the OL from what I see. He does coach his position but is with the Frosh team most of the time. And I think that's exactly what some people in the community think. Not qualified. But yeah Bryant didn't move up with his son. I don't think the other Frosh Coaches will as well. I think Abner will stay where he is as Head Freshman Coach. They have a pretty good foundation of Freshman Staff to coach for a several years.

Never. Especially with High School Sports.?

What are the qualifications to being a high school position coach?  Have the dads in question coaches at the high school level before?  I know Dave Bibb was a pretty successful high school head football coach.  Mick Abner learned a lot from his time working with Merrill Hoge and you can see that in the way he approaches and coaches the game.  The others I am unfamiliar with.

I am glad we have let this thread play out.  How I summarize it is, that the premise that "Daddy ball reigns supreme in Fort Thomas" is a false statement.

Thanks for bringing the topic up for discussion though.....

#GOBIRDS!!!

I will say that @futurecoachI think hit the nail on the head though, the days of there being a long line of Assistant Coaches wanting to coach football that have no ties to the program are probably very scarce.

Would love to know how many applications Wes received when posting for Job Openings of Assistant Coaches, my guess is I could count the # on one hand.....

I was just under the impression Highlands wouldn’t need to do that, seeing as they are a nationally recognized program that can get anybody they want.

This seems like a lot of overreaction over a loss to a superior team.

This is how a part of me feels but the other part is really wondering about the Highlands football program.

You think it went something like this?

Highlands AD - "Hey Coach Sphire, this is Highlands football calling.  Yes, THE Highlands.  Congratulations! We'd like to offer you the head football coaching job here."

Coach Sphire - "Ok.  Please tell me more.  I'm at least initially interested."

Highlands AD - "Great.  Bob, I'm so glad to hear you're interested.  First you must understand that we pay our coaches significantly less here in Kentucky than you're currently being paid in Georgia. Also, we're gonna ask you to teach or be a counselor or have some type of role in addition to just coaching football.  And, you'll have 6 or 7 fewer paid assistant coaches.  And our overall football budget is also significantly less than you're currently enjoying and working with at your massive Georgia high school football program."

Coach Sphire - "I love the idea of coming to Highlands, but based on what I'm hearing, I'm not sure it's the right move for me at this time.  I think Highlands would need to make a few improvements to the "offer" for me to really consider it."

Highlands AD - "But, C'mon Bob.  We're Highlands!  We should be able to get anybody we want at anytime from anywhere regardless of what you personally believe to be negatives here in Cake Town vs. what you're enjoying there with your family."
