Beechwood beating Trinity in 2021 isn't as far fetched as it appears you and others think. No one expected Beechwood to beat LCA either. Beechwood finished above Trinity in the calpreps.com rankings last year. Look at who Beechwood beat and who Trinity beat. Beechwood would definitely be the underdog. But if 2021 Beechwood and 2021 Trinity played 10 times, Trinity would not go 10-0 against Beechwood.

If Beechwood/LCA were in 6A last year they would have finished top 4-5 in 6A, ahead of Madison Central, who finished 4th in 6A rankings.  Trinity would have finished no higher than 3rd.  So if Trinity is 3 and Beechwood LCA would have been 4/5 in 6A how would it not be a close game?

If Beechwood and LCA were in 6A I would argue they would get beat up and ultimately would not have the depth to compete and therefore would fall off at the end and maybe get beat by someone we are not even discussing. 

LCA played a more brutal schedule last year than the majority of 6A team played.  They beat 3 of the 6 state champs and lost to another by 2 points.  They beat 6A semifinalist and beat another 6A team 58-0.

Although 1 was a covid cancellation win over Belfry, thought I still think LCA would have won.  They do play Belfry again this year.

It’s the same discussion every single year. Some team is good enough to beat Trinity (or X, or Male). I know it’s hard for many to swallow, but football in Louisville is just different. Even more so amongst the Big 3.

The fact that we’re comparing a state champion Beechwood team to a sub-par Trinity team is all you need to know.

If they were in 6A they would schedule accordingly. Non district play 2 or 3 smaller schools.

Over the years, I agree. We are only talking about 2021 and that sub-par Trinity team. St. X lost to DeSales and Bowling Green just 3 or 4 years ago. Male lost to Eastern a few years ago. 

I just throw this out on this discussion of different classes. In 2019 Frederick Douglass finished 14-1 and lost by only 1 score 14-7 to a very, very good Cov. Cath. team that year they scrimmaged 6A Trinity at home and lost by a score of either 41 or 42 to 7 and it was not even close. That Trinity team did win the 6A title but did lose a regular season game to Male.

One other example in 2020 Douglass played LCA and running clocked them with LCA scoring on the final seconds of the game to make the final 40-6 Douglass. LCA went on and lost in the 2A State title game to Beechwood 24-23 in OT.
