8th Region Realignment

There has been talk of a new team getting added to the 29th from outside the region....perhaps KCD?   Waggener?    Eastern?      CAL?

Would they dare allow a private school into the 8th Region?!

I think South Oldham would welcome this realignment!  Collins and South would advance to the region tournament almost every year. It is hard to rationalize why there is currently one 3-team distr

There are a lot of things that need to be changed. For starters let’s eliminate 3 team districts... and let’s not have 3 schools in one county be in 3 different regions...

I've even heard Ballard mentioned in this deal.

I have always thought it made more sense to have the Franklin County Schools in the 8th and have Woodford, Anderson and Clark all go to the 11th.

If you really wanted to shake things up and go that route, here's what could make sense geographically...

29th: Oldham, S. Oldham, N. Oldham, Shelby, Collins

30th:  Henry, Eminence, Trimble, Carroll

31st:  Owen, Franklin, Western Hills, Frankfort

32nd:  Grant, Williamstown, Walton-Verona, Gallatin, Simon Kenton (or send them back to 9th)

That would make the 29th an absolute gauntlet to get out of, while the 30th would be treated like the ugly step-child (no offense to those schools)...so, there's a near zero percent chance of it happening.

Here’s what I’m thinking for 8th, 9th and 10th. 9th region is all Boone and Kenton County schools with all Campbell County schools moving to the 10th. Clark, Woodford and Anderson go to 11th and Montgomery to the 16th.

29th: South Oldham, Collins, Shelby, Spencer

30th: Frankfort, Frankfort Christian, Western Hills, Franklin, Eminence

31st: Oldham, North Oldham, Trimble, Carroll, Henry

32nd: Gallatin, Owen, Grant, Williamstown

33rd: Walton, Simon Kenton, Cooper, Ryle

34th: Conner, Boone, Heritage, Lloyd, St Henry

35th: Dixie, Beechwood, CovCath, Ludlow, Villa

36th: Holmes, CovLatin, Holy Cross, Calvary Christian, Scott

37th: Newport, NCC, Highlands, Dayton, Bellevue

38th: Bishop Brossart, Campbell, Bracken, Augusta

39th: St Pat, Mason, Robertson, Nicholas

40th: Pendleton, Harrison, Paris, Bourbon

Clark and Woodford, both are heavily involved with Lexington, to the 11th Montgomery to the 16th Anderson to the 12th along 127 or the 5th along the BG parkway.  Anderson is a border county in any region they’re in.

Woodford County sticks out don't ya think?

Closest private schools to the 29th are CAL and KCD. I'm guessing the boys soccer team at KCD would love moving into the 8th Region. Remember, the KHSAA's stated goal with the last few tweaks is to have as many sports as possible follow basketball Regional alignments. This is something school admins and ADs wanted too, not just the KHSAA.

The 8th probably wishes Waggener were on the table, but the closest publics to the 8th are Eastern and Ballard. Heck, Ballard is closer to North Oldham than it is to Central.

@AirYardGo objects to the three Kenton County Public Schools split into the 8th, 9th, and 10th. Jefferson County would have schools in the 6th 7th, and 8th. I don't see the JCPS going for this. They've got some tight out of county travel guidelines. Be careful what you wish for though ...

"You'll have Ballard and like it!"

I have thought CAL to the 29th makes the most obvious sense.  South Oldham is closer to CAL than it is to North Oldham.  And CAL’s middle school team is in the same conference as the Oldham and Shelby schools (unless that’s changed recently).  The 29th is a pretty tough district - but you’d have to assume CAL would prefer the 8th to battling with Male and Ballard every year….,

If and when there is realignment I'm thinking Ballard will be involved.  I'm guessing the Khsaa has wanted to separate Male and Ballard for years.

KCD is just as close to Eastern as it is to South Oldham.

I don’t know if that balances anything out though?

Just go to 4 classes.  Makes way more sense.  In your scenario, Western Hills and Frankfort to the 8th and Franklin County and TFCA in a district in the 11th with Great Crossing and Scott County.  FC is, time wise as close to GC as it is WH.
