Announcing New Director of Strength and Conditioning

Covington Catholic High School is pleased to announce the addition of Adam Atallah as the Director of Strength and Conditioning in the Athletic Program.

Adam brings a wealth of experience as the Director of Sports Performance for the previous 8 years at Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, where he received the 2020 Ohio Strength Coach of the Year from the NHSSCA. Prior to Adam’s time at CHCA, he worked with Ignition Athletic Performance Group, training multiple collegiate and professional athletes.

Coach Atallah begins the full-time role on January 24th after meeting with all head coaches to discuss the goals of each program.

About the new role, CovCath Athletic Director Tony Bacigalupo said, “We are excited to welcome Adam and his family to the Covington Catholic community. As the 2020 Ohio Strength Coach of the Year, we are thrilled to add someone of Adam’s caliber to support the proud tradition and mission of Colonel athletics. Adam’s passion and knowledge will be great assets to all our student-athletes and the Colonel community.”

Covington Catholic High School is a 2016 Blue Ribbon of Excellence award winning college preparatory high school located in Park Hills, Kentucky, and operates within the Catholic Diocese of Covington. It is an all-male school of 503 whose mission is to embrace the Gospel message of Jesus Christ in order to educate students spiritually, academically, physically, and socially.

My understanding is everyone that attends Covington Catholic, not just athletes, has full access to the strength and conditioning program.

Seems to be going swimmingly. About 40% of the student population participating this week.

Is the football program utilizing Coach Atallah for their off season program? I know for years a lot of their off season program was done at ASAP but was curious if that was changing.

Football S&C was in house ran by coaches under Wirth. In between Wirth and Eviston, the school paid for football players to attend ASAP so they did not miss out on an off season. I also believe Eviston was still commuting from Gtown during a majority of that first off season, nor had he had a staff in place. Year 2 of Eviston, and truly his first off season, S&C was again in house, with one day a week being held at ASAP for conditioning due to lack of availability of turf use with baseball practicing. After year 2, football has been entirely in house.

CovCath basketball still uses ASAP, which will be interesting to see how they move forward now that CCH has full time strength coach. CCH baseball experimented with ASAP a few weeks , but ultimately went back to their same old S&C.

Correct.

Way back when, Coach Ray's "Winter Program" (off-season strength and conditioning) was offered to anyone who wanted to participate.

Coach Atallah also has strength and conditioning programs available to current eighth graders registered as incoming freshman.

Thanks for the information. Seems like it would be a no brainer for all programs to use the in house SC if the school is going to pay someone to lead it; howeverI have heard at other schools like HHS that is not the case. I love to see schools making the investment in SC coaches as it truly is essential to the development of programs.

This is a great investment by the school.  There seems to be more and more injuries in high school.  Hopefully, being proactive in strength training might help to curtail some of those injuries.  This would be really helpful in schools with female athletes who seem to suffer more knee injuries than the boys do.

That winter program was no joke!!!! Coach was on the cutting edge!

Great investment for the Colonels.  Coach A sounds like he is really engaging with a large portion of the student body - great to see!!

I don't think this is a unique program, is it?  Aren't there other schools with similar programs in place?

The days of getting your butt whipped by strength and agilities, then walking into the weight room to lift the next day.   I could barely move to lift the bar, let alone actually have any weight on it.

Absolutely there are, yes. And a lottttttt of schools have in-school lifting even.
