This is a great investment by the school.  There seems to be more and more injuries in high school.  Hopefully, being proactive in strength training might help to curtail some of those injuries.  This would be really helpful in schools with female athletes who seem to suffer more knee injuries than the boys do.

Is he a certied Athletic Trainer with a master's degree or at least a bachelor's in Exersice Science/Kinesiology/Health & Wellness?

I don't think this is a unique program, is it?  Aren't there other schools with similar programs in place?

There is also a thread dedicated to the Highlands S & C position. What other schools have a matching program head as opposed to say, football coaching staff running a program?

Absolutely there are, yes. And a lottttttt of schools have in-school lifting even.

Well I can't wait to see the thread that they run sprints during conditioning too.?

Will schools relying on an old school "lifting and sprints" program be able to keep pace? Does CCH supplementing it's program with a different focus give them an edge?

As to C_Dub's post, I've read/heard of schools offering lifting in the guise of "Advanced Health & Phys Ed 2" for credit towards graduation. Got a 40+ yr. head football coach in my family confirming it's common. Whatevs. That doesn't seem to be the plan in Park Hills. ?

My question around this thread and others about strength and conditioning type programs for entire schools' athletes was very simple - don't these programs exist at other schools? I will add this question, how many schools have similar programs in place? Maybe it isn't as widespread as I am thinking it is.

His role is to be a part of the sports performance coaching team with Cov Cath's certified trainer and team doctor, an orthopaedic and sports medicine surgeon. Please see the link below for his previous experience at CHCA, his role as coordinator between trainer, doctor, and the facilitator of cutting edge tech. Bonus points for playing football at Miami University and staffing NFL combines.

Fair questions, and do they provide the depth and breadth of the new elements Coach Atallah's experience adds? Will they be "in the building every day"?

In addition to his role as already described, these highlights from the program, linked below ~

• Leverages technology to daily track in-season student-athletes on their rest, nutrition, stress, and studies.

• Daily input via an app gives Atallah and coaches get real time insight on well-being and readiness for any given practice and/or game day.

• Utilizes recovery methods in place throughout the professional sports leagues.

✓ The part that caught my eye from both theguru's OP and this article, is that this program is available to all students at the school. This alone could set this program apart from others, and could be as important as any benefit to teams on the court/field.

Each year participation in KHSAA sponsored sports and activities at Cov Cath hovers around 60% of the student population - everything from archery to wrestling. I'm excited about this hire and program because it's an opportunity to bridge any health and wellness gap for non athletes. What better way to serve all the students and their families by fulfilling all of the promises in the school's mission statement, "... to educate students spiritually, academically, physically, and socially."

When I passed through Park Hills, the team doctor was a family physician; the weight room was in a storage closet, staffed by one football coach/semipro player; and the trainer was also the AD, three sport coach, and wore a handful of other hats - and I loved all of them. New times, new specializations, new challenges and opportunities. Color me pleased with this hire. ☺️
