Hyperbole much?. I’m fairly certain the Fieldhouse will continue to get its fair share of region tourneys. And if Holmes is the disaster everyone is expecting and wants it to be, then all the traditionalists will almost certainly get their wish of the fieldhouse hosting the tournament 3 out of every 4 years. 
 

I think the biggest fear many have isn’t the tournament being a failure this year. I think the biggest fear is everything turning out ok, at which point it wouldn’t surprise me if Harrison went ahead and gave hosting a shot when it’s their turn. 
 

 

I can see both sides of the debate here, yes some very nice gyms in the tenth region, was just in Nicholas County’s, very impressive. Travel is an issue in the tenth and always will be. But it’s Scott’s turn, they could have said ok, we are holding it at Scott, people would complain it’s to small, so they moved it to Holmes, just a few miles north, Holmes has held many region games, even back in the day when students showed up. Holmes held the region last year when the bank of Ky arena ask out of the contract, some one mentioned parking, for those of you not familiar with Holmes, one block past the driveway into Holmes, turn right, some parking behind the school and street parking as well. I have did pa at Holmes for many years and it’s been years since there was standing room only, I hope it works out and wish everyone save travels and a great tournament.

Still, it doesn't change my opinion.  You're talking 83% capacity not counting unpaid attendance.  All this to have the tournament at a non-10th Region school.  I just don't see it as a good situation for the Tournament. 

I am not in favor of Harrison County hosting next year due to its size as well.  But at least it is a 10th Region school.

Though I don't like the arrangements this year, I do hope there is a quality & successful Tournament.  

I hope it’s successful as well, the beliefs of some notwithstanding. The gradual devolution of what was one the finest regional tournament in the Commonwealth (a subjective opinion, I realize) sure doesn’t need a bust of a 2022 tourney to speed the process along.

If anything, a bust will pretty much solidify the argument that it shouldn't be held anywhere else. Plus it will give all the traditionalists a chance to admonish us "city folk" here in the 37th and tell us that you told us so from now until the end of time.

I sure hope it’s not a bust.  I have the interests of the whole region at heart, not just a subset of it  

Being able to say “I told you so” never did much for me.

I'm on the side of the 37th district in this whole thing, but did want to point out two things. It's not "Scott's turn" its the entire 37th turn, and required a vote from all member schools to decide where to play it. Also, they couldn't have just decided to host it at Scott as it has to clear the KHSAA and one of the first things they have you consider before presenting a location is size compared to expected crowd.

Maybe all these sports writers, 10th region gurus, AD’s, schools, coaches, teams, spectators should worry about filling the stands now.  Everywhere, every night, every gym, every district. 

I know some games I have been to from multiple regions and districts, Boys and girls this year has not had many fans in the stands except for a few high profile games. 
 

My god this thread is exhausting, and with that said I'm a happy as a pig in mud that the 10th is being held at Holmes this year because it's litterally a block from my pad, and I'll get to see a team like George Rogers Clack when otherwise I'd have to drive the miles to see. 

 

What's sad about the discussion of the tenth region tourney is that there is no mention of who wins, who may have a chance, who has no chance, who might not be there, who the MVP might be, who gets outcoached, who outcoaches everyone else, and how our winner may fare in the Sweet sixteen. Nope, it's all about what I/we want and what benefits me/us the most.

While I’m smack dab in the middle of the 9th Region, there are 4 teams (25% of the 10th) from the 10th Region who are from my neck of the woods who regularly play teams from the 9th Region, so much that they sorta feel like one of ours (and they used to be), and ever since those 4 teams have been in the 10th Region I can only count the one time they held their 10th Region tourney nearby, and that was when it was at the BB&T arena in 2009. 

Literally the entire 37th District is from Northern Kentucky, and while Holmes is a team in the 9th, they have a very large facility capable of having people spread out during a pandemic, and it’s right here in Northern Kentucky close to the teams in the 37th District where none of those 4 teams have a large enough facility to comfortably hold the tourney, so they looked at their neighbor from the 9th’s gym, and saw an opportunity to hold the tourney in a large decent facility. 

With all of that said, I’m not seeing how doing so, since it’s the 37th’s turn to host it, is such a travesty considering that it’s being held close by to the 4 teams in the 37th district allowing fans from those four teams to finally not have to drive so far to cheer their favorite team on.

Now that I have aired my grievances and fear mongered, while I don’t like the tournament at Holmes it will be “interesting”.  
 

Pros:

- If my team makes it to the finals I can take a personal day and spend the night at Hotel Covington before.  Then go to Smoke Justis. 
- It will allow and entire new audience of people to watch 10th Region Basketball and the teams in it.
 

Cons:

- Parking

- No plans to live-stream the games  

- Seating will not allow for crowds to social distance and space out. 

- Not a 10th Region school, but Holmes will make $4,500 from having our tournament plus thousands in concessions.

Isn’t your team Bracken County? You’d spend the money on a hotel because of the drive from Brooksville to Covington?

I understand all of your points. I guess i resent the action of the 37th because i understand the attitude of many from northern KY.  Had a credit card in hand ready to pay for a new freezer. They wouldn't deliver because of the distance. Sale over. Coached in the northern Kentucky middle school league. Grew very weary of their complaints about coming to our school to play because of the distance. Same distance both ways.

Overall, it's a great deal for the 9th Region and their fans.
