St. Xavier 31 Male 21 (6A State Championship)

Featured Replies

Male opened the scoring with a Nic Schutte to Vinny Anthony 88 yard TD pass to go up 6 to 0 with 637 left in the 1st quarter.  X’s Jack Sivori answered with a short TD run to tie the game and the extra point gave the Tigers the lead 7 to 6 with 815 left in the 2nd quarter. Male responded with a TD pass from Schutte to Dominic Vrbancic to take a 13 to 7 lead with 405 left in the 2nd quarter and that was the halftime score.

X started the scoring in the second half with a Nolan Wolford 26-yard field goal to make it 13 to 10 Male with 657 left in the third quarter. Jack Sivori hit Michael Duddy for a 26 yard TD pass to put X up 17 to 13 with 149 left in the 3rd quarter.  St. Xavier intercepted Male again and turned it into another Sivori TD pass, this time to Mekhi Smith to go up 24 to 13 with 802 left in the game.  Male raced down the field and Schutte connected with Vinny Anthony again for a 41 TD  pass along with a 2 pt conversion to make it 24 to 21 X with 521 left in the game.  X was trying to run out the clock but went for it all and Sivori hit Smith on a long pass for a TD to put St. Xavier up 31 to 21 with 152 left in the game.  What a way to end the Kentucky High School Football Season!

Congrats X! Congrats Coach Wallace!

Just got home. I remember back when these seniors and juniors were freshman and both classes went undefeated so I had this year circled as a championship year. Male improved so much since those frosh

Way to go St. X! You all proved a lot of people wrong, and that always makes it even that more gratifying.

Congrats @Oxnard!

Congratulations Tigers! December 4th continues to be a good day for the Tigers to play championship games.

Chris hasn't figured out a way to beat the true Pedigree of 6A.

As a Shamrock fan, I'm nothing short of ecstatic. 3 years in a row he goes down to the Blue Bloods.

Congratulations ST. Xavier Tigers!

What a great game to watch.

Was hoping we might shut out the privates one time. Anyhow, I have said this year Mr Football deserves to be Sivori for his impact at the level he plays at (private or not).

From an X offensive standpoint, I really liked the game plan Coach Wallace staff put together. It was going to be tough to run against Male's DL but they were committed to the run to keep the Male defense honest. But X also exploited the Male secondary. They give opposing offensives the field side flats and X used that as an extension of their run game. Kind of a new school approach to '3 yards and a cloud of dust'. X offense took what Male gave them and then would take the occasional shot. Also, X huddled on offense to use more of the play clock. Something little that became effective as the game progressed in X's favor.

This was a very good performance by X, they never flinched a d keep moving forward no matter the situation.

Boy, was I wrong. Congrats to St. X.
