Congrats to the Tigers on a undefeated season, capped off with the one that matters the most. Told all year that they were second best, and glad they got the chance to prove it tonight. Xavier Brown very well might be that dude, but tonight I was not impressed. The BW defense bent, but never broke. Rash and staff prepares their kids better than anyone in the state. Tonight was another testament to that. Roll Tigers! 

In my previous adrenalin infused post, I should have mentioned the class shown by both teams.  In particular I saw #32 from LCA help Cameron Hergot up after a play.  I don’t know why, but that particular show of sportsmanship always catches my eye.

This was truly a game between two powerhouses. Obviously, I am happy with the outcome, but I do respect the players and fans from LCA.  Very classy, and I wish only the best for the graduating seniors, and look forward to future nail biters.

Wow. All I can say is wow. That was an awesome football game. It took every ounce of energy from every coach and player to make that happen. The most impressive thing in the game today for me was Beechwood's grit and determination. LCA came out in the second half and scored twice in no time to take the lead, then forced a Beechwood 3 and out punt. LCA has the lead and the ball on Beechwood's 41 with all the momentum in the world. Most teams would have not been able to turn that momentum around, especially against a team like LCA. But Beechwood did it. They just kept battling and battling and slowly but surely took the game back. It takes a special, special group to do that. 

Accolades:

First, kicker Jake Conrad. First year player recruited from the soccer team to kick. As Coach Rash mentioned in the post game rally at Beechwood - Jake is senior class president, homecoming king and now, makes the winning kick for a state championship.

Second, the MEN in the trenches. Beechwood ran the ball right at LCA all day. They controlled the clock and helped the defense by keeping the LCA offense on the sideline. They led the defense by bottling up Xavier Brown and company on the ground. There was some big time hitting taking place in this game. It was a man's game and Beechwood's MEN in the trenches - Slusher, Campbell, Shepherd, Vanderpool, O'Shea, Jackson, Waddell - got it done. 

Third, the defense. I talked about turning the momentum in the game around. From that moment above with LCA leading 21-20 with the ball on the Beechwood 41, here is what LCA did the rest of the game - 3 and out; stopped on downs; 3 and out; stopped on downs. After that TD to open the second half, the LCA offense only had two more first downs the rest of the game.

This Beechwood team has to go right near the top of best ever. They went undefeated. They beat Covington Catholic by 3 TD's. They put a running clock on Mayfield. They beat a great LCA team in the title game that was also undefeated and considered perhaps the 3rd best team in the state regardless of class. LCA beat the 4A champ Boyle County. LCA beat the 1A champ Pikeville. LCA beat CAL, the team that was #1 in 3A most of the season. LCA beat 6A semi-finalist Madison Central. THAT same LCA is the team Beechwood beat for the title. Amazing game and season by the 2021 Beechwood Tigers, 2A back to back State Champion.

Unnecessary to take a shot at the kid. Fortunately for Beechwood, even though The tigers looked to not have an answer for him, LCA’s coach ran him very little in the first half and then it looked like he took a hit late in the 2nd quarter and was playing hurt the rest of the game. Only had a couple touches after that point.

22 point dogs. Comical. So glad Beechwood once again proved that NKY football, schedules, teams, etc are for real and that The over hyped down state teams get too much credit.  Great kids, team, program. Also congrats to LCA. A very worthy adversary. What a day…..

I really do hope your kidding! Right Guru? Berger was by far the best football player to go through Beechwood and it isn’t even close! The next best closest to him was probably Max Nussbaum! Greg is 2nd to Cam at QB. Both great, but Greg was better on defense and Cam on Offense.

You do remember Kentucky gave Greg a scholarship to play QB?

And no, not kidding at all, I think Greg Hergott was the best player ever to play for Beechwood.

Seriously, Brandon Berger was definitely one of the greatest players ever to play at Beechwood but in my opinion Hergott was better.

And to be a little silly, I will take 11 Greg Hergott's and running clock 11 Brandon Berger's.

No shot. He, from the film I’ve watched is an outstanding player, but didn’t play up to what I expected tonight. I’ve read plenty worse come from some on here, so if thats taken as a shot, wow. 

I agree that he was underused again, and after the hit he took, he didn’t look the same. 

Congrats to the Tigers on yet another historical season. I still can’t get over how great this defense was to watch all season.

Agree to disagree. I played with both! Both great players! Glad to have them as my QB-RB tandem for one ship!
