Very sad day.

This man changed the face of multiple communities and Eastern Kentucky. He was not only a Championship football Coach but also a Championship wrestling Coach.

His mark in both sports was far more than wins and trophies though.

He leaves behind a family with young boys.

A devastating loss and between him and Ty Scroggins, in the blink of an eye this horrible virus has taken two fixtures of the KY HS Football community and All Time Head Coach ranks in the past year.

Matney was the NFHS Wrestling Coach of the Year in 2020.

Indeed a sad day.  An assistant at Lloyd (maybe Holy Cross) was telling me about him prior to our game a couple of weeks back, and I could read the love and admiration that the JC grad had for Coach Matney.

Relentless passion for his "Mountain People" and his program.

Sad to hear this. He was one of the known football coaches in this state for making teams better. High school football in the state of ky lost a good one.
