Had no idea that was a penalty at the HS level. Guess it's better to meet with contact and go head to head or take the blow to the knee.

I guess that is the stance NFHS and the KHSAA have taken. I am not positive, but I believe it became a rule right around the same time they changed the blindside hit rule. Maybe, 4-5 years ago?

The hurdling rule was adopted by the NFHS in 2011 I think. That's the first time I remember seeing it called, anyway. It's listed under the "Illegal Personal Contact" section of the NFHS rule book, so my best guess is that it's an attempt to prevent head/neck injuries due to kicking on attempts at hurdling.

For what it's worth, if a player is laying on the ground or has any hands on the ground, the ball carrier can hurdle them. The NFHS defines hurdling as "an attempt by a player to jump (hurdle) with one or both feet or knees foremost over an opponent who is contacting the ground with no part of his body except one or both feet."

I agree. I think some schools that have grass fields cancel so field not torn up for varsity games.

Agreed! Absolutely no reason to cancel because of the rain, especially now that Boone has field turf.

Wow. Highlands 8th grade White team played Boone Co's 8th grade team over at BCPWF on Grid Iron drive not far from that at 6:30 followed by the 7th grade match up between the same two programs. It poured the entire time. Yeah this is not a good look on Boone Co. Get better like most are saying.

Just to pour on more with the “it’s only rain” issue with people cancelling games, the girls soccer match between Villa and Cooper that was supposed to be played at Cooper last night was cancelled b/c of weather.  Cooper has turf too!  We getting soft, that rain is going to melt these kids?  Come on LET’S PLAY!!!
