Awesome job by Coach Listerman and the birds! This was a fun journey to watch. There were some dark days early on when Coach Listerman took over the program where he was reviving/building the program

2014 Covington Catholic, State Champs

2015 Covington Catholic, Final 4

2016 Newport Central Catholic, Final 4

2017 Scott, Final 4 & Cooper, Runner Up

2018 Covington Catholic, State Champs & Campbell County, Elite 8

2019 Campbell County, Final 4 & Walton-Verona Elite 8

2021 Highlands, State Champs

That’s a fantastic resume for northern Kentucky basketball this decade.
Who will be the top teams in that section of the state next season? My guess would be Covington Catholic will be very good again.

Which right before that Holmes has a great run including a state title and state runner up. So it has been a great last 14 years for the NKY area. Which that is not even including usually having a few of the best small schools in Kentucky too.

CovCath returns 6 of their top 7 players next year.

Correct, with those players and whatever additions they get in the off season, I would put them at 9th region favorites.  However, Highlands, Dixie, and Conner may have something to say about that.

if it gets approved, they may be returning all 7.

And what if Vinson and Muller decide to come back?

CCH beat them in the regular season easily. I would expect another battle.

As a fan of the Listerman clan and 9th Region basketball history, I really enjoyed this article by Mike Fields.

"Highlands' Sweet 16 Title is 'Mountaintop' for Listermans"

For the Listermans, especially Mike and his sons Andy and Kevin, winning a state title was the culmination of decades of devotion to high school hoops.

Nice article ?

So happy for the Listermans...never has there been a more deserving family. They've surely paid their dues. It's only right that the stars finally aligned for them.

Congrats to Sam Vinson for receiving the most votes on the courier journal all state team....and shamelessly bumping this thread to the top of the page.

Extremely cool for the Reds to honor the Highlands basketball State Champs last night.  Added bonus they got to shake hands with my childhood idol Barry Larkin.

Slightly disappointed Listerman wasnt showcasing his infamous face mask.

GO BIRDS!!!
