Beechwood knows the lay of the land when it comes to the Semi-Finals. The Tigers have been to the Semi-Finals more times in the past five seasons than the West Carter Comets have been in their program's history. All that will fade away once toe meets leather in Olive Hill, but you cannot ignore the impact nerves may play early on as the Comets venture into unchartered territory.

Beechwood enters on a roll. The Tigers have posted six consecutive running clocks since a hard-fought loss to 6A Dixie Heights back during warmer weather. That game was also the last time Beechwood surrendered more than one score. Cameron Hergott is a man on a mission and ripped Breathitt County for six TD's to add to his 27 TD's entering the contest. Any hope West Carter has begins and ends with making Hergott one dimensional. Something that frankly no team has accomplished in 2020.

West Carter found little resistance from Walton-Verona. The Comets dominated every facet of the game and have a nice 5-game win streak of their own. The Comets will seek revenge from a 42-7 defeat to Beechwood last season up in Ft. Mitchell as they will no doubt relish the home Semi-Final advantage. They also are well aware of Hergott's acumen as he lit them up for 300 all-purpose yards and accounted for 4 Td's.

West Carter will lean on their own swiss army knives to close the gap. Leetavious Cline has been the most dominant rusher in Class 2A with over 2000 yards on the ground. He also can catch the ball a little and play tough defense, Gage Leadingham and Gavin Gibson both join in as two way terrors, as the supporting cast to Cline will have to find a way to make their mark to flip-flop last year's loss.

    1. There are some really good QB's in the state - Kaiya Sherron, Clay Games, Nick Broyles, Drew Nieves, Cole Pennington, Joe Lucas and more. Hard for anyone to put their finger on precisely who is the

For those of you keeping track, remember the Tigers did all of that damage last night without standout sophomore WR/RB/OLB Mitchell Berger and starting junior MLB and special teams whiz Michael Hatfie

No matter what happens in this game I would have never dreamed in my 56 years 51 in Carter Co. I now live in Lexington would I see Beechwood coming to Olive Hill for a state semi-final game in football. I would love to see the Comets win even through I'm from and coached basketball at East Carter (I'm not one of those who want my schools rival to lose every game) I think Beechwood will probably win but I will be rooting for the Comets!

I’m gonna take The Tigers. I am very concerned about Mr. Cline. Beechwood was able to hold him in check last year in the running game but he had 12 catches for 94 yards. He is very versatile and Beechwood needs to make sure they are ready for The Comets offense. I am predicting Tigers 35-14.

For those of you keeping track, remember the Tigers did all of that damage last night without standout sophomore WR/RB/OLB Mitchell Berger and starting junior MLB and special teams whiz Michael Hatfield.

Another thing to consider, Beechwood has only allowed one 100+ yard runner this entire season - Dixie's Pierce Rohlman, who gashed the Tigers for 167 yards on 29 carries. Rohlman's success that day can be laid mostly at the hands of a stout Dixie defense that challenged Cam Hergot and the Tigers O more than they've been challenged all season and QB Logan Landers playing one of his best games of the season putting the Colonels ahead giving them the ability to run often.

As great a season as the Comets are having, I don't expect their defense to push the Tigers the way it will need to in order to give LeeGOATavious and Orry Perry enough time on the field to do any real damage.

Here are the other top rushers each week against Beechwood:

Week 1 - Corbin - Cameron Combs 14-93-0

Week 2 - CovCath - Owen Nally - 14-60-0

Week 3 - Ryle - Mathias Cusick - 8-28-0

Week 4 - Dixie - Pierce Rohlman - 29-167-2

Week 5 - Holy Cross - Lavarr Jones - 9-53-0

Week 6 - Lloyd - Ethan Spaulding - 19-65-0

Week 7 - Newport - MyKel King - 3-25-0

Week 8 - NCC - Malaki Herndon - 13-27-0

Week 10 - Lloyd - Amari Riley - 18-47-0

*No names on Lane Weddle/BC last night yet.

117-566-2 TD's

PREDICTION: Beechwood 48, West Carter 7

I have tape of Beechwood's prep work for the game. The Tigers are already hard at work getting ready for the field conditions in Olive Hill. ?

Seriously though, if I'm Beechwood, I'm hoping for a change of venue to KCU. And if I'm West Carter, I'm keeping it right where it is.

Never seen Putnam Stadium that tore up as it was last night. Pulling hard for the Comets and Cats.

I think West Carter gives Beechwood a very competitive game up until late 3rd/early 4th quarter. The comets playing at home on their field gives them that advantage. The tigers will settle in late and pull away behind Hergott. Last night he looked almost untouchable. He continues to play like that the tigers will win this one, and surely be competitive regardless of who they play at state.

Who decides this? I’m assuming the home team.

I just looked at the weather for next week. It isn’t suppose to rain so the field should get dry.

The two Linebackers who stepped up to fill those roles played excellent last night! Waddell and Hughes were all over the field making plays! I believe Hughes made the stop on the goal one to give the tigers the ball back! The pipeline is rich that is for sure!

I’ve always heard defensiveness wins championships.

Not 100% sure, but I've always assumed it was the home team.

Until they water it! ? I’m sure it’ll be messy somehow!
