It's not a specific event, but I go back to the fact that many American's had no idea Franklin Roosevelt was bound to a wheel chair and stood behind a podium with the assistance of leg braces and canes. It was hidden due to the fact that it would symbolize weakness in our country's strongest figure.

 

In today's world this would be photographed by now and well known by many. Makes me also wonder, if it was known a candidate was bound to a wheelchair, would they have a real chance of winning? Social media could have changed history.

No question social media has changed the world. And everything shared so far is great. But, I'm not sure how much it would have changed the way the world already saw the OJ deal. It was on live 24/7.

 

My best guesses, the Kennedy Assassination..., Woodstock may have become a disaster...., Elvis' death may have blown up the internet..., and most any story ever before the 80's at least would have been changed dramatically. If you placed today's society, journalism, and technology into any time period in the world, then I'm guessing we are completely rewriting history in some good ways, but in many bad too. We may not have ever had a bible for instance, because too many folks would be arguing over what all actually happened. My two cents...

Clinton/Lewinsky would have made excellent Twitter fodder.

I’m trying to imagine the terrible Snapchat stories from the Beatles concerts.

 

The Model T and the Wright brothers would have trended and possibly sped up the space race.

 

The extinction of the dinosaurs with PETA at the forefront would offer great memes.

 

I’m not sure how much would have changed from these, but they would certainly be topics of conversation. You could list countless other political events, and wars too.

I can't decide if social media would have made a positive or negative impact that day, but I lean towards negative.

 

I had this conversation with a gentleman today, dove-tailing off of this thread, to be honest, and he made an observation I hadn't thought of. If the people in the tower had access to better information up-to-the minute, could perhaps more lives have been saved? Thought it was an interesting angle, not one with a definitive answer, obviously, but something interesting to ponder.
