Big top 10 showdown at the Capital this Friday as #9 Central comes to town for a rematch with the #3 Flyers. Franklin County won the regular season meeting 14-12.

I think Franklin County has a better showing this time and gets it done by a couple of scores.

I'm not saying Central's going to win, because frankly, I'm not confident enough to pick a winner either way, but this is the time of year when the Jackets usually start to pick it up. They smoked Shelby County last week after a competitive game with the Rockets in the regular season. The defense is looking like a typical, tough Central defense, and that strong early season schedule they always seem to play usually starts paying off right around now.

I think I just talked myself into picking Central.

This game will be played at Woodford. I think that helps Franklin more than Central. I'll take Franklin in a close one.

The location being changed plays a factor in the home town presence IMO. I have watched both teams and I will say this may be the game of the year in 4A.

A couple of game notes for both teams:

Central-

- Central played like the defending state champions last week versus a Shelby team that played them close earlier in District Play.

-Offensive play calling has changed significantly as they lined up and said we are going to bring our big boys in and pound the rock.

-Defensively they will be challenged this week vs this high scoring spread offense.

Franklin-

- Starting QB Nick Broyles was injured last week with a dislocated elbow. While backup QB Jayden Mattison came in and finished the job vs Waggener, how will this young man respond in the spotlight vs the Central D.

- FC held Central to only 12 pts and some would say only 6.

I expect it to be the same way and with this moved to the turf it should be an interesting affair.

FC-21

Central- 16

Franklin-

That is game changing news. That's 3,400 yards of offense and 43 touchdowns suddenly taken off the board for the Flyers. How does Franklin County go from scoring 14 on Central with Broyles to scoring more without him?

The first game was played on a grass field that was not in the best condition. They are moving to turf, along with the athletic ability of Mattison. I don't know if you watched last week but the kid is quicker and has more speed than Broyles giving the system of offense the spark they may need. Just because he is young and you have not seen the young man doesn't mean hes not talented. He is about 6'3 and plays OLB for FC and is not afraid of contact. Central will have not seen the offense with him at the command and I expect that to present issues.

Anyone in this thread from the FC side can tell you there is no favoritism in their direction from me, BUT this is by far the most hard nosed and talent loaded team I have seen in some time at the school on the hill. Coach James and crew have done a great job in preparing this year.

It's hard to go against a Central defense facing a backup QB in November. Conventional wisdom says Franklin shouldn't be as good without Broyles as they were with him. But who knows, perhaps they can buck that wisdom. Im certainly open to the possibility. If Mattison can beat Central in the playoffs with seven pass attempts to his name this season, you'll find me in the post game thread praising your clairvoyance.

I'm assuming the move was made due to poor field conditions?

Yessir!

I’d find it hard to believe that playing on a turf field benefits Franklin County MORE than it does Central...
