Manning passed for 4600+, 5400+ and 4700+ yards his first three years in Denver. He was hurt during the Superbowl season and I agree his leadership was more important than his arm. I don't think however, Manning would have been as good with the Colts, due to physical limitations had he remained in with them. The Colts releasing Manning to get Luck was a win win for everyone at that time.

He played 4 years and was great 3 of them and won a SB in the fourth, you don't think he'd have been good in INDY those four years? His limitations didn't impact him at all until he was injured in his fourth year. Indy wasn't as good as the Broncos, so maybe the team success would have been less than what he did in Denver...but he would have done fine and yes better than Luck.

I will weigh in on this as a Colts season ticket holder. Management painted a rosy picture (again) that Luck was fine, just had some discomfort. We all had high hopes for the season. The defense has been upgraded with Leonard and Nelson and looks to be better. Just as the fourth quarter starts, everyone's phone blows up with the news that Andrew was retiring. Shock, upset, disappointment and dispair. No one could believe this. Andrew was on the field with the team. He did not deserve to have this LEAKED. The fans did not deserve to learn of it this way. I thing those who booed were frustrated. And not at Andrew. We know what he has gone through. Remember most season ticket holders give their preseason tickets to friends and in my section there were few of us there. I believe the late decision was because his mind was saying this is getting better, but his body wouldnt. My mind.tells me all the time I can do anything I want. My body tells me different. Giving up on something you love is not easy.

Which those offensive lead results led to the same results he had the majority of his Colts career. Which was getting upset with home field advantage. Getting blown out be Seattle and its defense in the super bowl. It wasn't until he had a top 5 defense with Denver that last year that led to him winning it all. No real reason to believe with a bad defense, and offensive line in Indy that the Colts would have done much better with him. The Colts did basically what any team would have done in that situation. Zero reason to second guess it, or think back harshly on it.

Being a colts fan this stinks! Can't blame him for doing what's best for him! There was a reason Ballard and Irsay didn't want to trade Brissett. Brissett is no Andrew Luck and I'm now unsure of how this season goes for the colts. But I'll be wearing colts gear and heading up there twice as I do every year! Disappointed is what comes to mind! But this is a good indy team with or without Luck.

Completely agree. Schefter did his job.

From what I read, Luck told teammates on Friday. Not surprising it got out.

Schefter didn't tarnish his rep, his decision to retire was going to do that on his own.

 

Which I have zero problem with him retiring. While yes it is a team game, and sucks for his teammates. At the end of the day he needs to do what is best for him and his family first.

I guess in today's world it has become acceptable to advance your own career..... (just doing what I get paid for).....no matter the lasting damage it might cause others. Price of being a celebrity in today's world of social media.

The Colts have been ultra-secretive about Luck's injury status. To this day we still do not know to what extent he is injured, but we can only assume it is much worse than a "high ankle injury" or whatever else they kept feeding the media/fans. Naturally, no person was buying what they were selling, and paying customers and consumers of all things Indianapolis Colts and the NFL had an interest in knowing what was up. Schefter was probably one of about 50 media members trying to get to the bottom of it all. Again, the "disservice" done in this situation were the staff/players that let Schefter know. I guess you could argue they, by tipping him, were trying to advance their careers. Schefter sits on a confirmed story like this he gets fired.

What is everyone's thoughts on the Colts not trying to recoup the money Luck owes back to them? A $25MM parting gift is a nice move, which I assume Irsay is looking at as an investment if Luck were ever to change his mind. I would have had 0 issues with them getting back the money from Luck. Do the other owners look at Irsay and say, "What the hell are you thinking? Just because your guy retired and you hand over $25MM, it is going to make me look like a bad guy when I do not do the same."
