June 18, 20197 yr I’m old enough to remember when there was only a single two-lane bridge over the Chesapeake Bay. On the big big holiday weekends (Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day), it wasn’t uncommon for the traffic to be backed up for 4 to 6 hours.

Seems like every year there is an accident on that bridge where someone goes over the side. The absolute worst is when they make one of the 3 lanes of the westbound span into a third eastbound lane.

June 19, 20197 yr 75 south in Cincinnati, from Mitchell Ave. to the Brent Spence, is way worse than either direction in NKY will ever be. Made doubly so by the fact that the road is perpetually uneven, being worked on, and has the bottle-neck down to two lanes starting at Western Ave. in order to head south across the Brent Spence Bridge. I usually have luck with this hack: get off at Hopple to Central Pkwy to 9th to the on-ramp right at Brent Spence.
June 28, 20197 yr Literally my FAVORITE stretch of highway in this part of the country. So much fun, so beautiful, and a blast to drive. Now I've heard horror stories about traffic jams there, but knock on wood, I've never had to sit in one. They have been doing a pretty good amount of construction on that stretch in the last two or three years. Went on vacation down to Asheville with my wife's family last June, and I decided to take Highway 25 instead of I-40. With the construction traffic on I-40, taking a scenic byway like US-25 was within 10 or 15 minutes of the same time frame for the drive, but it was the second most beautiful stretch of drive I can think of ever taking in the eastern United States - the Blue Ridge Mountain Parkway takes the cake, though.

Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive are spectacular. Of course, you can get on from close to the interstate, travel an hour, and get back on the interstate about 20 minutes from where you started.

June 29, 20197 yr One of the worst traffic jams I’ve ever been in that didn’t involve a wreck. Along with Marietta Georgia at rush hour. One day we had a massive backup coming out of Tampa to Orlando on I-4. We thought it was an accident. Turns out that near Thonotosassa cars were pulling over for passengers to take pictures of people picking strawberries. I heard later, that FHP had to come out and get the traffic flowing, again. Humans are a strange species.

June 29, 20197 yr The entire Atlanta area is the worse I've experienced by far and it's that way everytime I pass through there during peak congestion hours. Boston years ago was terrible but that w as s a one time event for me and I've heard they improved things in recent years. Atlanta is an absolute nightmare though if you're passing through anytime between 4am and midnight. You essentially have a four hour window, sometimes.

ATRI highlights top 1 truck bottlenecks in nation | Refrigerated Transporter Here are your top 10: 1. Fort Lee, NJ: I 95 and SR 4 2. Atlanta: I-285 at I-85 (North) 3. Atlanta: I-75 at I-285 (North) 4. Los Angeles: SR 60 at SR 57 5. Houston: I-45 at I-69/US 59 6. Cincinnati: I-71 at I-75 7. Chicago: I-290 at I-90/I-94 8. Nashville: I-24/I-40 at I-440 (East) 9. Atlanta: I-20 at I-285 (West) 10. Los Angeles: I-710 at I-105 That is not something to be proud of Cincinnati. Doesn't surprise me at all that three of the ten worst are in Atlanta. Worst city to drive through that there is.
